Chemonics International Inc, a U.S. based international development consulting firm, seeks the following long-term positions for the USAID Next Generation Early Grade Reading Activity (NextGen) in Malawi.

The $75 million activity aims to solidify and build on the contributions made to date as part of the implementation of Malawi’s National Reading Program (NRP) towards improving the delivery of high-quality early primary reading instruction in all Malawian primary schools.

We are currently seeking qualified professionals for the following posts to be based out of Lilongwe, Malawi, unless otherwise noted.


Bookkeeper, who will assist the Accountant in all aspects of project accounting and financial management. S/he is responsible for completing data entry for accounting transactions, including reviewing payments for appropriate documentation and approvals, and ensuring the maintenance of proper accounting files.


  • A Bachelor’s Degree and/or a Certification in Accounting or Financial Management
  • At least 2 years experience as a bookkeeper, financial assistant, or similar position
  • Previous experience on a USAID-funded project is preferred.
  • Excellent working capabilities with Microsoft Excel, Word, and other accounting software packages.
  • Knowledge of payroll and tax issues in Malawi.
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Written and spoken proficiency in English required.
