POSITION: COUNTRY COORDINATOR (CC)

Location: Blantyre, Malawi

Time of Effort: 80 %

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Participatory Ecological Land Use Management (PELUM) is a regional network grouping of non- state actors in the Eastern and Southern Africa that advocates for agro ecological farming, especially for the resource-poor farmers for securing food security and improved incomes while at the same time conserving the natural resources.

The main feature of PELUM is conservation of natural resources such as soil, forests and water in farming and promotion of organic farming.

PELUM Malawi Association has secured funding from Bread for the World of Germany to strengthen its networking nationally and regionally and will require the services of the Country Coordinator and will only spend 80 % of his/her time of effort until more funding is secured.

PURPOSE

  • To develop, implement and coordinate PELUM Association activities in Malawi.

SCOPE OF WORK

The Country Coordinator is responsible for the overall management and development of PELUM programme in Malawi and for ensuring that PELUM work contributes effectively and efficiently towards meeting the needs of smallholder farmers and the goals of the organisation.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Setting up PELUM Association office in Malawi
  • Taking lead in Resource mobilization for the PELUM association in Malawi
  • Coordinate regularly with PELUM regional Office in Uganda
  • Developing networks and partnerships with national, regional and international institutions;
  • Keeping up-to-date information in terms of relevant socio-economic, food security livelihood and rural economic developments and trends within the development sector and donors;
  • Developing relations with key donors in-country and expanding the funding base of the association;
  • Ensuring positive working relationships with all partners and stakeholders (government ministries, communities, NGOs, donors etc.);
  • Providing technical advice and support to PELUM member organizations;
  • Working with partner organizations to drive forward and develop national and regional activities for Policy, Research and Advocacy to further the interests of smallholder farmers;
  • Taking lead in preparation of annual plans and budgets;
  • Overall responsible for the production of timely quality reports and submission to the Board and donors;
  • Creating opportunities to promote and disseminate lessons learnt within PELUM programmes to a wider audience (farmers, local government, research institutions, other NGOs, etc.);
  • Represent PELUM in strategicmeetings, conferences, forums and other public events and contribute towards consolidating and raising the profile of PELUM;
  • Ensure effective implementation and compliance with the overall finance, logistic & procurement manuals, anti-corruption policy and compliance with procedures required by grant or contract agreements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND COMPETENCES

  • Minimum Bachelor Degree in Agriculture or Natural Resources Management from Malawi Government accredited University
  • Minimum of 2 years Working
  • Experience in the areas of Food security, Sustainable Agriculture, Human Nutrition, Climate Change management, Natural Resources management
  • Progressive experience of working at least 2 years in the NGO sector in Malawi.
  • Proven experience in proposal development from concept note to full proposal and experience in other innovative strategies of resource mobilization with a proven record in raising substantial research/development funds.
  • Proven experience as representative of an NGO and managing partner relationships
  • Experience in liaising with government officials and a variety of donors.
