Chemonics International Inc, a U.S. based international development consulting firm, seeks the following long-term positions for the USAID Next Generation Early Grade Reading Activity (NextGen) in Malawi.

The $75 million activity aims to solidify and build on the contributions made to date as part of the implementation of Malawi’s National Reading Program (NRP) towards improving the delivery of high-quality early primary reading instruction in all Malawian primary schools.

CPD, Coaching, and Incentivization Specialist

Chemonics International Inc, a U.S. based international development consulting firm, seeks a CPD, Coaching, and Incentivization Specialist for the USAID Next Generation Early Grade Reading Activity (NextGen) in Malawi.

The $75 million activity aims to solidify and build on the contributions made to date as part of the implementation of Malawi’s National Reading Program (NRP) towards improving the delivery of high-quality early primary reading instruction in all Malawian primary schools.

We are seeking individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of Malawi’s lower primary students.

This is a long-term position that will be based in Zomba, Malawi.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Under the direction of the senior early childhood development specialist, work closely with government counterparts to support the development of effective systems of teacher professional development to support pre-primary teachers to effectively build skills that prepare them to transition to Grade 1 (including the effective use of assessment).
  • Support the design of activities and incentives to improve pre-primary in-service teacher education, and work with Digital Development Specialist to devise and implement evidence-based, sustainable digital solutions to enhance teacher CPD.
  • Support the development and introduction of tools (or use of existing tools) for head teachers and mentors to use in supporting teacher CPD.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or similar relevant field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years’ experience strengthening teacher professional development among primary grade teachers (experience with grades 1 and 2 teachers preferred).
  • Successful experience designing and implementing innovative strategies to strengthen teacher CPD.
  • Prior experience working with MOE, MANEB, and/or regional TTCs required.
  • Experience working with international development sector organizations and/or donor agencies is preferred.
  • Demonstrated exemplary diplomatic, communication, and interpersonal skills as well as versatility and integrity.
  • Proven experience building relationships and facilitating learning about how to improve project work preferred.
  • Written and spoken proficiency in English and Chichewa.
