Chemonics International Inc, a U.S. based international development consulting firm, seeks the following long-term positions for the USAID Next Generation Early Grade Reading Activity (NextGen) in Malawi.

The $75 million activity aims to solidify and build on the contributions made to date as part of the implementation of Malawi’s National Reading Program (NRP) towards improving the delivery of high-quality early primary reading instruction in all Malawian primary schools.

Early Grade Curriculum, Transition and Materials Developer

Chemonics International Inc, a U.S. based international development consulting firm, seeks an early grade Curriculum, Transition and Materials Developer for the USAID Next Generation Early Grade Reading Activity (NextGen) in Malawi.

The $75 million activity aims to solidify and build on the contributions made to date as part of the implementation of Malawi’s National Reading Program (NRP) towards improving the delivery of high-quality early primary reading instruction in all Malawian primary schools.

We are seeking individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of Malawi’s lower primary students.

This is a long-term position that will be based in Zomba, Malawi.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Support revision and/or creation of early grade reading teaching and learning materials as needed working in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Malawi Institute of Education, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensures that NextGen-supported pre-primary teaching and learning materials are gender-sensitive, inclusive, engaging, and relevant to the Malawian context and build early grade reading skills effectively.
  • Support the creation of reading materials that meet the instructional needs of students with disabilities or students in need of differentiated and/or remedial instruction.
  • Support data collection at the direction of the Senior Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Specialist as appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, preferably in curriculum development; Advanced Degree preferred. An academic specialty or extensive field experience in early grade reading – a combination of both is preferred.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the technical direction of programs that work specifically to improve early grade reading.
  • Prior experience with the development of early grade reading materials, training programs, classroom monitoring protocols, and tests and assessments (including EGRA or similar tests).
  • Familiarity with, and comprehension of, core concepts in early grade reading education.
  • Proven experience building relationships and facilitating learning about how to improve project work preferred.
  • Written and spoken proficiency in English and Chichewa.
