Circle of Hope is an NGO located east of Mvera in Dowa District near Katengeza Trading Centre. COH currently consists of a Primary School, Nursery School, Childcare Institution, Health Centre and community development programs. COH exists to witness to the Good News of Jesus Christ by engaging in works of mercy and justice alongside the world’s most impoverished people.

Job Specification: Provide advice, support, counselling, and resources to children and families in need. Oversee FCS department to ensure the well-being of the children living in our temporary care institution.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Social Worker is expected to carry out the following duties and responsibilities with the highest level of integrity:

  • Ensure that the procedures for the admission and departure of children into and from the childcare institution are properly followed
  • Assess and evaluate all available information on all admitted children and carry out field research of individual cases wherever necessary
  • Providing advice, guidance, counselling, and support to vulnerable children and families
  • Oversee the reintegration of children back into their home villages and relatives
  • Keep proper records and contact information of children and families
  • Ensure that the basic needs of each child within the institution are assessed and addressed
  • Provide children with individual counseling whenever necessary
  • Assess the needs of the children (sleeping mats, blankets, shoes, clothes, etc.)
  • Development and implement developmental programs for children.
  • Work closely with other staff members to plan appropriate programs for the development of each child
  • Promote in-service training of the Mothers.
  • Participate in and assist with the development of training programs wherever appropriate
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with children, families, and FCS staff members
  • Work with the House Mothers to assess the physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual needs of each child
  • Work with government social welfare offices to make sure the department is following Malawi social welfare laws and regulations
  • Purchase materials for FCS purchase orders and oversee how those materials are used
  • Keep up-to-date with social work issues and keep informed of current trends in childcare and social welfare
  • Give annual employee reviews to central office management and local director
  • Be a contributing member of the management team
  • Plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate training programs for communities across sector areas of Agriculture, Small business and Education.

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Diploma or equivalent in Community Development, Social Works, or any related field
  • Demonstrate ability to work and mobilize communities to implement development projects
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Have good interpersonal and Organization skills
  • Must be a team player.
