POSITION: SYNOD GENERAL TREASURER

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Forming part of the Executive Management and reporting to the General Secretary, the General Treasurer shall be responsible for the prudent management of the finances and investments’ issues of the Synod.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • To manage the Synod’s financial systems and budgets
  • To undertake financial audits (an independent check of the Synod’s financial position)
  • To be responsible for documentations and accuracy of yearly financial audits
  • To provide financial advice to the Synod Management, Departmental Heads and the Synod Board of trustees
  • To review the Synod’s accounting systems and analyzing risks and reporting to the Trustees
  • To liaise with external auditors and dealing with any financial irregularities as they arise
  • To prepare financial management reports, including financial planning and forecasting:
  • To negotiate payment terms with big suppliers and managing debtors terms
  • To review, update, and implement existing internal accounting systems and introducing new systems and controls where appropriate with Board of Trustees approval.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A Degree in accounting or finance
  • A Chartered Accountant (Certified Public Accountant) will have an added advantage
  • Proven financial and investments experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years proven managerial experience at increasing level of seniority and responsibility.

REQUISITE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Several years of experience in finance;
  • Leadership skills and management experience;
  • Integrity; honesty; understanding of data privacy standards;
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal with adequate negotiating skills;
  • Superior attention to detail; organizational skills; planning skills
  • Problem-solving skills; research skills; analytical skills; critical thinking skills; computer skills; multi-tasking skills.
