MINISTRY OF EDUCATION

TRAINING PROGRAMMES IN BACHELOR OF EDUCATION (SECONDARY) DEGREE TENABLE AT DOMASI COLLEGE OF EDUCATION FOR THE 2022 ACADEMIC  YEAR THROUGH THE FACE-TO-FACE MODE OF DELIVERY.

  1. Applications are invited from suitably qualified Malawians for admission into a four year face-to-tace training programme leading, on completion, to attainment of a Bachelor of Education Degree in Sciences or Humanities (Languages and Social Sciences).

 

  1. ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must:

(a) be school leavers who are holders of a Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE), GCSE or O LEVEL obtained between 2018 to 2020.

(b) have a minimum of six credits including English subject.

(c) have an aggregate of not more than ten (10) points in the two teaching subjects they are applying for; and

(d) not more than 35 years of age.

OR

(a) be holders of A-Level certificates with three principal passes obtained between the years 2018 to 2021.

(b) not more than 35 years of age.

  1. PROGRAMMES

Details of the programmes are as follows:

PROGRAMME A:

BACHELOR OF EDUCATION SCIENCE (SECONDARY)

Applicants must choose one combination of two subjects which will be their teaching subjects from the following:

(i) Mathematics and Biology

(ii) Mathematics and Chemistry

(iii) Mathematics and Physics

(iv) Mathematics and Computer Science

(v) Mathematics and Agriculture

(vi) Biology and Agriculture

(vii) Mathematics and Human Ecology (Home Economics)

(viii) Human Ecology (Home Economics) and Agriculture

(ix) Human Ecology (Home Economics) and Biology.

Applicants for combinations (i), (ii) and (iii) must have at least credits in English, Mathematics, Biology and Physical Science/Physics/Chemistry and any other two (2) subjects.

Applicants for combination (iv) must have at least credits in English, Mathematics and Physical Science/Physics and any other two (2) subjects. Those who studied Computer Studies will have an added advantage.

Applicants for combination (v) must have at least credits in English, Mathematics and Agriculture and any other three (3) subjects two of which should be the following: Biology, Home Economics, Physical Science, Chemistry and Physics.

 

Applicants tor combination (vi) must have at least credits in English, Mathematics, Biology and Agriculture and any other two (2) subjects one of which should be the following: Home Economics Physical Science, Chemistry and Physics.

Applicants tor combinations (vii, (viii) and (ix) must have at least credits in English, Mathematics, Physical Science/Chemistry and any other three (3) subjects two of which should be the following Biology, Home Economics, Physics and Agriculture.

 

OR

(a) At A-Level, the candidate should have at least a grade C in each of the two teaching subjects they are applying for.

(b) At O-level, the candidates must have at least a grade C in Mathematics and English.

PROGRAMME B:

BACHELOR OF EDUCATION HUMANITIES (SECONDARY)

In this programme, applicants must choose one combination of two subjects which will be their

teaching subjects from the following:

(i) English and Linguistics and African Languages

(ii) English and French

(iii) History and Geography

(iv) History and Social Studies

(v) History and Theology and Religious Studies

(vi) Geography and Theology and Religious Studies

(vii)Social Studies and Theology and Religious Studies

(viii)Physical Education and Performing Arts

(ix) Physical Education and Creative Arts.

Applicants for options (i) and (ii) must have credits in English and Chichewa and any other four (4) subjects. Those opting for French should also have a credit in French.

Applicants for options (iii) and (iv) must have credits in English, History and Geography and any other three (3) subjects including two of the following: Bible Knowledge, Life Skills, Chichewa, Social and Development Studies and French.

Applicants for options (v), (vi) and (vii) must have credits in English, History and Geography, Social studies and Bible knowledge and any other two (2) subjects including one of the following: Life Skills, Chichewa and French.

Applicants for options (viii) and (ix) must have credits in English and Bialogy, and any other four (4)

Subjects including two of the following: Bible Knowledge, Life Skills, Geography, History, Chichewa,

Social and Development Studies and French.

OR

(a) At A-Level, the candidate should have at least a grade C in each of the two teaching subjects they are applying for.

(b) At O-level, candidates must have at least a grade C in English or a credit pass in English.

Due to the rigor of the Physical Education practical, only those who are medically and physically fit should apply for combinations (viii) and (ix). Shortlisted applicants will be required to Sign a consent form.

  1. All shortlisted applicants will be required to sit for Entrance Examinations in three (3 papers: Numerical, Communication and Reasoning skills.
  1. Candidates who qualify using A-level certificates are exempted from taking entrance examinations. However, they will be required to present themselves on the day of registration for the examinations.

 

  1. TRAINING CONDITIONS
  2. Successful candidates will be required to pay a non-refundable financial contribution in tuition fee of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Malawi Kwacha (MK250, 000) per academic year. However, the fee is subject to revision from time to time.
  3. Ministry of Education and Domasi College of Education will not be responsible for any form of allowances to trainees.

 

  1. METHOD OF APPLICATION

Applicants should apply for only ONE Programme clearly indicating:

  1. The programme they are applying for
  2. Their preferred subject combination;
  3. Age; and
  4. Sex
  5. MSCE/O-level grades and the years they were obtained.

 

  1. PROCESSING FEE

All applicants should pay a non-refundable processing fee of Ten Thousand Malawi Kwacha (K10,000.00). The processing fee should be deposited directly into the following bank account:

  1. Applications clearly marked Bachelor of Education Programme (Generic) together with a Copy of the bank deposit slip.

NB:

  • Former Domasi College of Education and Nalikule College of Education students wino were withdrawn on academic or disciplinary grounds must not apply for this training.
  • Candidates with visual impairment should apply for Program B (i), (ii), (iv), (v) and (vii)
  • Do not send your original certificates or notification of results, but photocopies.
  • Grades from two complete certificates will not be accepted Domasi Coilege of Education is implementing 50-50 policy on recruitment by gender. Therefore, female candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • For candidates With A-Level certificates, exemption from entrance examinations does not imply automatic selection.
  • Any application that does not meet the requirements will be disqualified.
  • Candidates should only apply to one institution, either Domasi College of Education or Nalikule College of Education.
