VICE CHANCELLOR (Re-Advertised)

Marble Hill University (MHU) is a Private university recognized, registered and accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). The University is currently offering three programmes as follows:

i. Bachelor of Commerce in Business Administration
ii. Bachelor of Commerce in Human Resource Management
iii. Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing.

All the three programmes are accredited by NCHE. An additional three are in the pipeline. On the retirement of the founding Vice Chancellor, Marble Hill University is now inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacant post of Vice Chancellor. This is a highly demanding position that requires higher education managers with demonstratable capacity to initiate creatively both academic and environmental managerial innovations that will make the University vibrant and competitive in a world where global trends in tertiary education are changing fast.

A. Qualifications
Eligible applicants must have a PhD from a reputable University in their discipline of specification. Only those candidates with a credible track record in research, teaching and management in a recognised higher education institution will be considered.

B. Duties and Responsibilities
The Vice Chancellor as the Chief Executive Officer and academic head of the University, is expected to perform the following duties, among others:

  • Provide leadership to the University geared at the furtherance of the objectives of the University;
  • Ensuring that senior managers are carrying out their duties efficiently and effectively;
  • Spearheading strategic planning, policy formulation and implementation targeted at the development of the University, and be responsive to the needs of Malawi in particular and the World in general;
  • Ensuring that mechanisms for quality control and inspection are in place and are functioning properly;
  • Maintaining close liaison with the University Council on all matters affecting the University and its core function;
  • Maintaining and promoting the reputation, efficiency and discipline among members of staff and students;
  • Apart from having outstanding academic achievements, demonstrate abilities to mobilising resources and funds;
  • Ensuring that funds raised by the University and those provided by other shareholders are managed properly;
  • Briefing the Chancellor and Council regularly on the business of the University and how its strategic plans are being operationalized;
  • Marketing the University by giving desirable visibility through interacting with Government;
  • Chairing Senate and operating as a member of Finance and Budget Committee as well as Appointments and Disciplinary Committee, and other adhoc Committees created for the purpose of managing affairs of the University; and
  • Conferring University degrees, diplomas and certificates on behalf of and in the absence of the Chancellor.

C. Terms and Conditions of Service
The appointment to the position will be made on a contract at a level commensurate with the candidate’s qualification, experience and publication record and in accordance with its attractive emoluments structure. The contract will be for a period of three years and the successful candidate may be eligible for re-appointment by one further term based on performance.
