JOB OPPORTUNITY - ACCOUNTANT (1)

The Accountant is required to contribute to the achievement of the objectives of Green Villages and provide financial management support to the projects that Green Villages is currently managing and/or supporting in Malawi.

Responsibilities of the Accountant

  • Manage the day to day finances of Green Villages
  • Enter all transactions and approving payment requests and cheques/transfers by correct recording and posting of all transactions
  • Run the payroll and deductions. Ensure payroll is correctly prepared on time and all deductions are made as required and PAYE is remitted on time to MRA
  • Prepare and monitor the implementation of the budget, identifying variances with explanations and recommendations as necessary and reporting monthly to the Director of Finance (DF) and Chief Executive Officer
  • Manage the cash flow to ensure necessary availability of funds to meet budgeted activity and operational requirements
  • Work closely with the Director of Finance on budgeting
    โ€ข Monitor compliance with procurement guidelines
  • Ensure the correct operation of the Accounting System.
    โ€ข Reconcile financial records with monthly bank statements
  • Support auditors with information and necessary documentation that may be required during an audit visit
  • Compile monthly, quarterly and end of year financial report in accordance with international standards of accounting.
  • Recommend accounting procedures to Green Villages management as per international accounting standards
  • Any other work as assigned from time to time.

 

Person specification
Essential

  • Degree in Accountancy
  • At least 3years working experience of accounting with different currencies
  • Experience of international procurement procedures
  • Fully conversant with statutory accounting requirements in Malawi
  • Experience of computerized accounting systems and complex spreadsheets
  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, analytical and communication skills and team working.
  • Demonstrable skills in complex problem solving.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Experience in project/program management
  • Experience of working busy company
  • A strong team player adept at fostering team spirit;
  • Those with conversant with Quick Books may have an added advantage.
  • Must be fluent in English
  • Must be willing to work at awkward hours like after 5pm and over the weekends.
