Overview

Good Neighbors International-Malawi (GNI) is an international humanitarian and development organization in General Consultative Status with the United Nations  Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC) with its headquarters in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Good Neighbors Malawi currently implements various community development projects within the following sectors, Health, Education, Water and Sanitation, Agriculture and Social Welfare ‘advocacy for children’s rights’, and other livelihood projects.

1. Job Title: Accountant
2. Reporting to: Finance Manager
3. Location: Lilongwe Head Office
4. Role description

We are seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Accountant to join our finance team.

The Accountant will be responsible for preparing and recording all financial reports, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and recording transactions. The accountant will also handle Payroll and employee expenses and help with budgeting and reconciliations.

Key duties and Responsibilities

  • Preparation of payments and ensuring that all payment vouchers have proper supporting documentation as per GNI financial procedures
  • Checking invoices, receipts documents to ensure accuracy, correctness and compliance with Good Neighbors policies and procedures
  • Assist the Finance Officer in preparing the financial reports (Monthly, quarterly, and annual)
  • Ensure Compliance with donor regulations and legal requirements i.e TEVETA and Pensions
  • Inputting data and attaching online documents into the accounting system (QuickBooks Online)
  • Monitor projects expenditures to maintain budget compliance
  • Ensure monthly bank reconciliation to all assigned projects bank accounts
  • Ensure accurate recording and documentation of all financial transactions in compliance with organizational and donor requirements
  • Ensure all Malawi Revenue Authority taxes are paid on time and conforms to the tax regulations
  • Transferring files to the archive
  • Filling, scanning and uploading and records management compliance for finance
  • And any other duties assigned from time to time

6. Qualification/ Experience/Competences

  • He/she should hold a Diploma with 5 years experience or Bachelor’s Degree in Accountincy, Banking and Finance, Auditing or related fields from a reputable and recognized University
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Excel
  • Time-management and organization skills
  • Able to work in and deliver results in a high-pressure environment
  • Good time management skills and ability to make priorities
  • Confidentiality
  • Previous experience in online payment system
  • Proficiency in accounting software, particularly QuickBooks is a MUST.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong understanding of financial reports, budgets, and reconciliations
