Overview

The National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) whose main objective is to ensure security of fuel supply in Malawi is a wholly owned Malawi Government Company established under the Company’s Act of 1984 on the 10th of December 2010 and commenced its operations in 2012.

NOCMA is responsible for managing the Country’s 60 million liters Strategic Fuel Reserves facilities situated in Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu, and smaller depots in Chilumba, Chipoka and Mchinji.

Over the past thirteen (13) years, the Company has grown tremendously in its national strategic importance with its fuel importation market share growing from ten percent (10%) in 2015 to an average of sixty-five
percent (65%) in 2023/2024 and this has been matched with growth in institutional capacity and investments to enable efficiency and effectiveness in executing its mandate.

In its drive to ensure improved and sustained efficiency and effectiveness in delivery of its mandate, NOCMA is seeking to recruit qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following highly rewarding positions that have arisen within the Company.

Applications are therefore invited for the following position:

ASSISTANT SECURITY OFFICER (NOC07) – CODE: ASO2023 – Tenable at Mzuzu Depot (1) and Lilongwe Depot (1)

PURPOSE
The main purpose of the position is to manage and administer security systems and processes for NOCMA staff and assets.

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conducting security checks, assessments, and analysis at the Depot
  2. Conducting patrols of NOCMA premises on daily basis
  3. Monitoring and coordinating safety and security activities at Depot.
  4. Inspecting, monitoring, and ensuring efficient management of security equipment e.g., CCTVs, breathalyzers, and other equipment
  5. Coordinating and supervising outsourced security personnel from the Malawi Police Service, G4S, Security Solutions, and other security companies.
  6. Orienting staff on safety and security including visitors.
  7. Supervising, monitoring, and inspecting inflow and outflow of vehicles.
  8. Submitting regular reports to Depot Manager and Security Officer
  9. Conducting investigations on security matters
  10. Assisting Security Officer in planning and preparing budgets for the Security Unit of the Company.

REPORTING LINE AND RESPONSIBILITY
The position reports to the Depot Manager with functional reporting to the Security Officer at Head Office. The post has no responsibility for subordinates.

THE PERSON
The required candidate should have the following competences, skills, and attributes:

  1. Drive for results – Ability to commit to action and assume responsibility and ownership for own performance and the associated outcomes.
  2. Works collaboratively with others.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Diploma in Security Studies or a related field, from an accredited institution. Possession of Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution will be an added advantage.
  2. A minimum of four (4) years’ cumulative work experience, three (3) of which should have been spent in a similar role or in the Military or Police Service.
