BEE OPERATIONS MANAGER

Gala Agriculture Company Ltd, based in Namitete, Lilongwe, is one of the country's leading macadamia
producing businesses, operates 12 estates in the Lilongwe District, is looking to recruit an experienced,
highly dynamic, motivated and skilled individual as a Bee Operations Manager.

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager and the Chief Executive Officer, the Bee Operations Manager
will develop, maintain and manage a large-scale bee and honey producing operation within the various estates. A large number of hives will be managed by Community Members of the surrounding communities and where the company will enter into an offtake agreement with them for the honey and pollination services.

The company aims to install at least 8,000 hives within the next two years, of which the first 4,000 will be installed within 2024.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Langstroth Hive Management
Honey Production, directing the extraction, processing, and packaging of honey. Ensuring high-quality production standards, efficient extraction methods, and adherence to food safety regulations.
•Pollination Services, coordinating the use of hives for pollination of macadamia crops and potentially other crops
•Staff Supervision managing a team of beekeepers and support staff and Training
•Equipment and Supply Management, overseeing the procurement and maintenance of beekeeping
equipment and supplies
•Record Keeping and Data Analysis,
Community Development and Environmental Stewardship

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
•University level or its equivalent qualification
•High level of interpersonal skills and integrity and a solid team player
•Computer skills
•At least five years of related experience preferred managing large scale bee and honey operations

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES
•Excellent knowledge and experience in managing large scale bee and honey operation
•Excellent knowledge of bee dynamics
Communication skills and community development experience.
