VACANCY

Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Malawi (BCMCF-M) is a not-for-profit organization working in partnership with the Malawi Government in the health sector. Our Mission is to provide high-quality, high-impact, highly ethical pediatric and family-centered health care, health professional training and clinical research, focused on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, malnutrition and other conditions impacting the health and well-being of children and families worldwide.

BCMCF-M is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of:

Position: Business Development Manager

 Contract Duration:  1 year (possibly renewable)

 Location:  Lilongwe –COE

Reports to: Executive Director

Position description and responsibilities

 The Business Development Manager will lead the resource mobilization initiatives for the Baylor Foundation Malawi to attract financial resources in line with the organization’s mandate

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following

 1. Planning & Strategy Development

  • With support from the Executive Director, set up a business development office for the Foundation
  • Develop resource mobilization annual work plans and budget including strategies for implementation, in line with Baylor Foundation Malawi fundraising policy.
  • Develop periodic operational resource mobilization activity plans and budgets.
  • Identify potential donors (local and international) to support the Foundation’s strategic plan
  • Be on the lookout for Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) and develop a response plan

2. Revenue Generation & Fundraising

  • Identify the organization’s finance deficit/gap, and liaise with the key stakeholders to develop a periodic aggressive resource mobilization strategic plan.
  • Prepare and submit proposals to donors and development finance institutions
  • Follow up the donors or development finance institutions response in accordance with Baylor Foundation Malawi’s fundraising policy.
  • Take the lead in proposal writing, ensuring that there is a corresponding schedule, including required attachments for submission.

 3. Managing Donor Relations

  • Develop and maintain a donor database including contact details, areas of interest/objectives, funding and contractual modalities and formats with a view to sustaining existing cordial relationships
  • Build partnerships and networks with potential donors Including local funding agencies, corporate sector and international donors to foster a profitable working relationship with Baylor Foundation Malawi
  • Represent Baylor Foundation Malawi at relevant meetings, events, and resource mobilization or donor-specific peer networks, as it relates to Baylor Foundation Malawi’s funding requirements.

4. Reporting

  • Develop a system to monitor the implementation of the resource mobilization strategy while involving Baylor Foundation Malawi’s directors as per the agreed upon periodic resource mobilization targets for each service line
  • Submit monthly and quarterly performance reports on resource mobilization activities.

5. Staff Development

  • Provide technical support to departmental/unit/project heads in the development of fundable quality proposals for the organization’s programmes.
  • Build the capacity of Baylor Foundation Malawi staff in resource mobilization i.e. in fundraising aspects or donor relating/guidelines as per the identified needs.

6. Communication

  • Ensure that the Foundation has adequate IEC materials for visibility purposes
  • Ensure that the Foundation’s website has current content at all times
  • Ensure that the Foundation has appropriate social media handles which are active at all times
  • Prepare a periodic newsletter to showcase the outstanding work being done by the Foundation and ensure it is widely distributed on different platforms

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Master’s degree in Business Administration or any other related field.
  • Any additional health related qualification will be an added advantage
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Resource mobilization and proposal writing experience
  • At least 8 years work experience in Non-Profit Making Organizations, 3 years of which, should be in a business development role
