Overview

Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute (SMEDI) is a parastatal organization mandated to promote the development and growth of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the country, intends to recruit the services of well-qualified, experienced and result oriented persons to fill various positions tenable at its various duty stations located in Lilongwe, Blantyre and Mponela as follows:

Position: Business Information and Advisory Services Officer (1 Position)

Grade – SME 5.

Job Purpose

To facilitate collection, processing and dissemination of information; and provision of quality advisory services to MSMEs to enable them operate viable and sustainable enterprises that will in turn contribute to job creation and national economic growth.

Qualifications and Attributes

  • A minimum of Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, Business Studies (Education), Marketing or any other related course from a recognized and accredited tertiary institution;
  • A minimum of three (3) years practical and progressive experience in a related field;
  • Less than 40 years of age;
  • Sound knowledge of local and international MSME landscape;
  • Database Management;
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills;
    Excellent Computer literacy;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Team player.

Selected Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the management and promotion of the use of the One-stop information centre;
  • Initiating and participating in the review or development of new and innovative information collection and dissemination techniques and provision of quality advisory services to MSMEs;
  • Developing relevant information materials for publication guided by the needs of MSMEs/Clients;
  • Facilitating the registration and acquisition of relevant certifications to enable MSMEs compete favourably on the market;
  • Facilitating the establishment of MSME groups, associations and cooperatives amongst others;
  • Linking MSMEs to appropriate financial institutions, markets and other individuals and groups from which to acquire business assistance;
  • Participating in the development of work plans, programmes and budgets;
  • Producing and submitting periodic reports.
