ย Mรฉdecins Sans Frontiรจres (MSF) is a non-profit, independent international humanitarian organization committed to delivering medical aid to populations facing crises, with a steadfast commitment to impartiality and without regard to race, religion, creed, or political affiliation. In Malawi, MSF works closely with the Ministry of Health and local communities, focusing on the Cervical Cancer project in Blantyre and Chiradzulu districts, as well as the CBO Project in Zalewa and Dedza districts. The CBO project run by MSF France supports two Community Based Organizations โ€”one in Zalewa, Neno District, and another in Dedza Districtโ€”to enhance sex workersโ€™ access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services.

MSFF is looking for its CBO Project:

CLINICAL OFFICERโ€“ 1 POSITION

Workplace :ย  CBO Project Office in Blantyre with weekly visits alternating between Dedza and Zalewa

Type of contract :ย  6 months Fixed Term Contract with the possibility of extension

Start date :ย ย ย  November 2024

Main purpose of the position

Organizing and ensuring medical consultations to the target population providing treatment to patients within the scope of his/her medical competencies and referring them when appropriate, according to MSF protocols, procedures, and the universal hygiene standards to guarantee quality and efficiency of the service provided.

Accountabilities

  • Ensuring the implementation and standardization of MSF clinical policies, tools, and hygiene protocols to minimize clinical risks and to guarantee the quality of patient care management. Promoting and maintaining confidentiality regarding all patient cases and records.
  • Implementing diagnosis, prescription and prevention procedures that fall under the scope of his/her competencies applying medical knowledge, asking appropriate questions to patients, and following protocols in force as well as using laboratory services, when necessary, to ensure a correct implementation of the medical treatments and to refer patients when appropriate.
  • Participating in the planning and supervision, in close coordination with other supervisors, the HR processes (sizing, staff shifts, recruitment, training, evaluation, development and communication) of the team to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required, improve people triage capabilities, their motivation and commitment and their active participation in teaching the targeted population on therapeutic and preventive protocols.
  • Ensuringthat all staffย  using medical devices are qualified and trained. Make sure thatย  cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performedย  according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
  • In cases of emergency, carrying out first aid care and treatment according to protocols to reduce mortality rates.
  • Documenting all medical activities (such as prescribed medications, lab results, vaccination status, epidemiological data, dosages etc.) in individual patient cards and registration books to ensure data traceability and continuity of patient care.
  • Participating in data collection and reporting when required.
  • Knowing and implementing Patient Therapeutic Education (PTE), i.e., keeping contact with all patients, providing them information regarding their health state, and responding to their questions.
  • Knowing and promoting the proper application of Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) Kit and Sexually Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Ensure appropriate working attitude towards the sex worker community, which is largely the beneficiary of the services provided by the project, the CBO (Community-Based Organization) members and the MOH employees assigned to the outreach clinic.
  • Ensure a good working environment for medical consultations including privacy and confidentiality for the clients.
  • Ensure availability of all equipment required for an appropriate medical consultation especially regarding Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.
  • Adhere torecommended guidelines as put in place by MSF and MOH. Discuss with superior where protocols are in contrast.
  • Participate and assist the Health Promotion Officer (HPO) and CBO members is health talks especially where there are topics not well understood and difficult questions from the audience.
  • Perform clinical consultation and provide appropriate treatment to sex workers visiting the MSF mobile outreach clinic which includes SRH, SV, PEP, PrEP oral and injectable, Cervical Cancer Screening, Post Abortion Care, and others.
  • Ensure all patients and clients are free to access all treatments and procedures offered by the clinic freely and ensure they are aware of their rights to receive such treatments.
  • Perform appropriate referrals when indicated within the stipulated referral pathways.
  • Implement appropriate patient booking for follow up on all long-term services such as the PrEP including Injectable PrEP, Contraceptives, Cervical Cancer Screening.
  • Ensure a proper record of services provided into existing data tools (MSF and MOH).
  • Work closely with the PrEP study team, ensuring comprehensive data collection for all PrEP services and clients. This includes documenting verbal information provided by the MSF/CBO team regarding the secondary use of programmatic data for PrEP operational research, tracking PrEP uptake, recording discontinuation reasons, potential side effects, and ensuring accurate entry into MSF and MOH data systems.
  • Support the qualitative research team in identifying participants and providing feedback on experiences with PrEP delivery in outreach clinics.

 

ย  Requirements

Education At least Diploma in Clinical Medecine. ย 
Experience Essential:A minimum of one year of experience as a clinician in the field of Sexual Reproductiveย Health and Rights (SRHR).

Desirable:

โ€ขย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Experience working with key and vulnerable populations.

โ€ขย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Experience in district health facilities.

Languages English and Chichewa
Knowledge Computer literacyย
