The Baylor College of Medicine Childrenโs Foundation โ Malawi (BCMCF-M) is a not-for-profit organization working in partnership with the Malawi Government in the health sector. Our mission is to improve the health and lives of children with HIV, cancer and blood disorders through high quality, high impact, ethical, state of the art comprehensive care and treatment, training of health professionals and clinical research. We are situated within the Kamuzu Central Hospital premises, opposite Kamuzu College of Nursing.
Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation has awarded Baylor College of Medicine Global Health a generous grant of $2.25 million to launch the Comprehensive Cervical Cancer Pilot Initiative in Malawi. This initiative, which will be implemented ย at Area 25 Community Hospital , aims to tackle cervical cancer, the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women in Malawi. BCMCF-M invites applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the following positions of:
Position: Clinical Officer
Reports to: Medical Director
Location: Area 25 Community Hospitalย ย
Job Summary
The clinical Officer will participate in the day to day operations of the Unit, including and not limited to the clinic, Cervical Cancer programmatic work etc. Reporting to the Medical Director on a day to day basis.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Mentorship and Clinical Support: Provide one-on-one mentorship and clinical support to Ministry of Health (MoH) staff and other partners during duty hours, strengthening cervical cancer screening and treatment systems, assisting in identifying solutions to specific health center challenges, and ensuring accurate completion of all relevant records and forms while maintaining the MoH-Baylor Foundation Malawi Public-Private Partnership relationship.
- Meetings and Reporting: Attend clinical and educational meetings as directed by the medical director, presenting comprehensive reports on clinical work and progress at the center.
- Program Improvement: Develop and propose ideas for enhancing cervical cancer care within the center and the surrounding community.
- Clinical Leadership and Training: Provide clinical leadership, training, and guidance to nurses and other clinicians at the Area 25 Community Hospital, and deliver lectures for continuous professional development to the cervical cancer team and nursing staff at least quarterly.
- Clinical Care: Deliver clinical care at the Area 25 Health Centre in respective wards and departments when not on call.
- Training and Development: Participate in training initiatives for nurses and other staff members, contributing to the development of mentorship and leadership programs to enhance team experience.
- Cervical Cancer Program Operations: Engage actively in the daily operations of the cervical cancer program, conducting screenings and treatments for precancerous lesions.
- Research Participation: Engage in research activities related to cervical cancer and contribute to programmatic work, outreach initiatives, training, and mentorship activities.
- Administrative Support: Assist in creating the call roster as required by hospital management
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in clinical medicine from a recognized institution and registered with the medical council of Malawi
- Minimum of 3 yearsโ experience as a clinical officer in a clinical role
- Reliable and able to handle complicated issues with minimum supervision
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment is a must
