COMPLIANCE SPECIALIST
Reporting to the Legal and Regulatory Director, the Compliance Specialist shall be responsible for ensuring that the Company complies with applicable laws, regulations, directives, internal policies, and procedures. The position is tenable in Blantyre.
Major Tasks and Responsibilities
The key duties and responsibilities include, but are not restricted to, the following:
- Develops, reviews and implements the compliance strategy in line with the company’s strategy.
- Establishes and implements a compliance program that effectively detects and prevents violation of laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Develops, maintains, monitors and reviews a compliance register.
- Conducts research on compliance issues and makes relevant recommendations to align business compliance with emerging regional and global compliance trends and best practices.
- Assesses and identifies compliance risks and agrees with all divisions on mitigation and time-bound action.
- Handles all cases, complaints or litigation relating to alleged non-compliance, prepare legal opinions and conducts root cause analysis to ensure proper action including remedial action.
- Promotes internal compliance awareness and creates a compliance culture.
- Provides advisory services on issues that relate to legal and regulatory requirements.
- Liaises with relevant regulatory bodies such as MACRA, MSE, CFTC, FIA, MRA etc.
- Acts as a Compliance Officer under the Data Protection Act, Competition and Fair-Trading Act, and Malawi Stock Exchange Listings Requirements.
- Responds to and advises on requests from Regulators, Customers, Data Subjects and Shareholders.
Education Qualification, Skills and Competencies
- Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB).
- Licensed as a legal practitioner by the Malawi Law Society.
- Minimum of four (4) years relevant experience.
- A demonstrated background in effectively managing compliance programs, interpreting and implementing laws and regulations, and working with regulatory bodies.
- Knowledge and understanding of key compliance legislation applicable to the telecommunications sector and the Company.
- Excellent interpersonal, legal research, statutory interpretation, writing, presentation, time management, change management, project management and advocacy skills.
- Good knowledge of global and regional compliance trends.
- Experience in handling regulatory affairs and legal matters in the telecommunications sector will be an added advantage
