Director of Finance and Administration –Sub-Saharan Africa Family Enrichment (SAFE)

 

The Organization: SAFE is a Christ-centered NGO, based in Zomba, Malawi, with a mission to “change lives in vulnerable communities as we share God’s love and truth in words and actions.” It has a multi-generational ministry to the young and old, through three distinct but synergistic programs:

1) Education and Youth Development activities, including WHY WAIT? life skills training in schools and clubs, Mother Groups, mentoring/tutoring and scholarship programs.

2) Early Childhood Development, through community-based child care centres and parental training – to develop the learning abilities & holistic health of children, 0-8 years old.

3) Gogo Grandparent Support, including spiritual training, psycho-social support, and physical assistance– to improve the well-being of grandparents and enable them to effectively care for vulnerable children.

JOB DESCRIPTION
SAFE-Africa Board of Directors and SAFE Board of Directors seek a Director of Finance and Administration to provide strategic leadership and operational management, in a true servant-leader fashion, to the SAFE team for the fulfillment of SAFE’s mission and programmatic objectives.

Duties and Functions of Director of Finance and Administration

  1. Establish sound fiscal position for the Organization
  2. Prepare timely accounts for audit
  3. Prepare financial statements, management accounts and other reports
  4. Ensure statutory audits, internal and donor audits are conducted in a timely and professional manner, cooperating with external auditors, and leading the implantation of recommendations within the agreed timeframes
  5. Facilitate the management of assets and stores
  6. Facilitate access to insurance and pension portfolios
  7. Implement, monitor and review stores, financial and investment policies, plans, budgets, strategies, procedures and regulations
  8. Provide leadership, source and execute investment opportunities
  9. Liaise and oversee that best financial and non-financial practices are implemented
  10. Mobilize financial resources
  11. Coach, develop and mentor the finance team in their career development
  12. Manage portfolio risk
  13. Formulate, implement, monitor and review Human Resource and Administration
  14. Consolidate and implementing departmental budgets
  15. Plan, coordinate and monitor staff development
  16. Provide advice and support to management and staff on the implementation of the Organization’s Human and Administrative policies and procedures
  17. Interpret human resources and administrative policies and regulations
  18. Oversee the management and implementation of cross cutting issues such as HIV and AIDS, gender mainstreaming and climate change awareness at work place
  19. Oversee implementation of procurement, works and buildings activities
  20. Manage staff performance appraisals

Qualifications and Skills

  1. Financial diploma awarded by ICAM or ACCA. Those with a degree in Accountancy from a recognized institution of higher learning accredited by NCHE will have an added advantage.
  2. A minimum of 3 years experience in managing finance functions of a local or international NGO
  3. Visionary, with demonstrated success operationalizing a vision and strategy
  4. A personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is vital and growing, that is visible in one’s family, community/church and workplace
  5. Demonstrated excellence as a team-builder and servant-leader
  6. Experience leading a diverse team, including program and finance/administrative operations, and in mentoring/discipling others
  7. Strong evidence of commitment to excellence and ability to manage for results
  8. Knowledge of performance management, monitoring and evaluation, and sound fiscal management principles
  9. Successful problem-solver, with strong critical thinking skills, and able to forge organizational consensus to move forward
  10. Possesses a Biblical worldview (consistent with Romans 12:2 and with the spiritual and philosophical foundations of the SAFE ministry) and demonstrated commitment to holistic ministry, as evidenced in one’s vocational work or extra-curricular activities
  11. Effective communicator, with excellent written and oral communication skills, including storytelling, and experience in report writing
  12. Experience in fundraising and/or external networking and organizational representation
  13. A clear sense of calling to work with SAFE and carry out its mission and vision
