Overview
The Centre for Social Concern (CfSC) is a faith based and non-profit making organisation established in 2002 by the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers).
The CfSC aims at bringing about social justice in the Malawian society through evidence based research. Its mission is to foster a critical reflection on issues of social concern based on faith. To effectively implement and respond to some of its objectives, the Centre for Social Concern is looking for a suitably qualified and interested candidate to fill the following post tenable in Lilongwe.
Post: Economic Justice Programme Officer- Tenable in Lilongwe.
This is a key position which tracks and monitors the economic governance situation in Malawi.
Duties and responsibilities
- Plan and design research on issues of economic governance
- Contribute to budget consultation sessions and make follow up on the same
- Actively participate in budget tracking interventions throughout the year
- Through data collection on relevant economic issues , contribute to the analysis of local and international economic issues through the issuance of press statements, public debate, features etc
- Occasionally hold interface meetings between duty bears (government and other departments) and rights holders on pertinent issues concerning the citizenry to enhance the development agenda
- Maintain a close collaboration with leaders of faith communities at national, regional and district levels on the implications of economic and human rights issues
- In particular and on a more regular basis, track the debt contraction processes , implementation of debt related projects and how debt translates to reducing poverty and inequality to improve the welfare of people in Malawi
- Prepare analytical quarterly and annual reports on the implementation process of the programme activities to assess the impact as related to the objectives.
Required Qualifications and Expertise
- Masterโs Degree in Social Science with a major in Economics, Development Economics, International Relations or any related qualifications from a recognised institution
- A minimum of 3 years work experience in economic justice issues, including practical experience in project planning and implementation
- Knowledge and competence in various computer programmes and databases such as MS Word, MS Power point, MS Excel and SPSS etc.
- Strong in developing project proposals for funding and writing reports
- A result โ driven expert who is familiar with the economic justice programmeโs theory of change
- Strong communication, interpersonal and analytical skills and high level of diplomacy
