Overview
Saint John of God Hospitaller Services is a nonprofit healthcare organization established in 1994 to contribute to the development of health for all Malawians including the vulnerable, marginalized, and excluded groups. With its operations both in Lilongwe and Mzuzu, Saint John of God Malawi is a key provider of tertiary and community-based mental health promotion and care including in prisons; early intervention services for children with both intellectual and physical disabilities; vocational training for orphans & vulnerable youth including those with a disability; health care and other services for older persons; psychosocial counselling, stress and addiction management services; rehabilitation of street children; self-help group approach for women empowerment and tertiary level training in Psychiatric Nursing, Clinical Medicine-Mental Health, Psychosocial Counselling and General Nursing. The organization seeks to recruit qualified and well-experienced personnel to fill the following vacant posts in Mzuzu:
1.Estates Management Officer
The Position
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Estates Management Officer will coordinate all the installation, maintenance, and repair works at our facilities in Mzuzu and Lilongwe. He/she will manage teams made up of workers and artisans who execute tasks according to project requirements and ensure the smooth running of upkeep or repair operations.
Responsibilities (which include, but are not limited to);
- Supervises maintenance staff and contractors at both Lilongwe and Mzuzu Centres
- Contribute to the development of the maintenance budget and ensure compliance
- Facilitate development and review of maintenance policies and procedures
- Conduct safety inspections at worksites
- Monitor inventory of materials and equipment
- Conduct regular inspections to identify faulty equipment and perform repairs.
- Escalates maintenance issues to management and recommends solutions
- Participate in the coordination of projects
- Ensure adherence to quality standards and health and safety regulations
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction or Property Management
- A minimum of two years experience in the maintenance of buildings.
- Strong problem-solving abilities
- Flexibility and adaptability to work well in a team
- Familiarity with maintenance tools and equipment Ability to read technical manuals and blueprints
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively
- Strict adherence to the organization’s Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy.
2.Horticulture Supervisor-Intern
The Position
Reporting to the Community and Partnerships Fundraising Officer (Coordinator for JOG Enterprise Services), the Horticulture Supervisor-Intern will be responsible for managing landscape development and maintenance under JOG Enterprise.
Responsibilities (which include, but are not limited to);
- Ensures that landscape development and maintenance are done in a proper manner
- Planning and designing annual and perennial flower beds
- Facilitate production of bedding plants, potted plants, and nursery stock and maintain records on the growing operation.
- Training grounds personnel in the techniques of pruning, wound dressing, cavity repair, and the cabling and bracing of trees and shrubs.
- Developing fertilizer application programs for various types of plants.
- Ensuring that all equipment in the JOG Landscape and Horticulture services is in good functioning order and reporting any faults to Maintenance through the maintenance requisition procedure.
Requirements
- Diploma in Horticulture/Landscape Management from a recognized College
- Those with experience in creative landscape development and maintenance will have an added advantage.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills
- Ability to work with very minimum supervision and under pressure
- Willingness to work with mentally challenged people and their families.

3.Data Entry Clerk – Intern
The Position
The Data Entry Clerk-intern will report to the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer but be responsible to the Programs Manager in the management of the Service Health Information System.
Responsibilities (which include, but are not limited to)
- Reviewing patients’ digital health records to ensure that they are complete and accurate
- Inputting or verifying classification codes for patients’ diagnoses, testing procedures, and/or treatments
- Updating or organizing healthcare data within clinical databases
- Compiling reports as requested
- Assisting with the safe and secure storage of private patient data
Requirements
- Diploma in ICT, Statistics, Monitoring and Evaluation from an accredited University.
- Computer literate with vast experience in the use of Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word documents.
- Knowledgeable in Health Management Information Systems
- Strict adherence to the organization’s Child and
- Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy
- Willingness to work with people having mental health problems.
4.Accountant-Lilongwe Service
The Position
Reporting to the Senior Accountant, the successful candidate will be responsible for performing financial analysis, preparing financial reports/forecasts, and developing strategies to reduce operational and program costs. He/she should exhibit extensive knowledge of financial analysis, preparing financial forecasts, and expertise that translates into sustainable business growth in a similar environment.
Responsibilities (which include, but are not limited to
- Gathering interpreting information to evaluate the efficiency of financial procedures
- Developing and implementing cost-effective financial policies and procedures as well as mitigating financial risks
- Preparing financial reports and budgets as well as controlling and forecasting revenue and expenditure
- Monitoring auditing and taxation practices
- Ensuring that financial management policies and procedures adhere to regulatory standards
- Performing financial record keeping as well as protecting sensitive and confidential information
- Keeping informed of regulatory requirements and best practices in accounting
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related qualification
- At least three years experience in a similar role.
- Proficiency in business management and accounting software such as Sage and Iplicit
- Extensive knowledge of accounting standards and financial regulations
- Good organizational and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to multitask and work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines.

- Registered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM)
