Field Officer
Overview
Join AGE Africa in transforming the educational landscape of rural Malawi.
Funded by the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) through the Bridge for Girls Education Programme, we are seeking a dynamic and creative professional to serve as a Field Officer (FO). This pivotal role offers the opportunity to significantly impact the lives of young women by implementing a comprehensive scholarship fund and life skills program across Phalombe and Ntchisi districts.
Founded in 2005, AGE Africa addresses the critical need for financial and educational support for adolescent girls in Malawi. By partnering with rural communities, we deliver high-impact programs that provide scholarships and life skills training, fostering socio-economic empowerment from adolescence into adulthood.
This position is based in the district of implementation and the Officer will be required to have exclusive residency in the District. This position will be assigned a motorbike to facilitate mobility within the District.

General Responsibilities
The Field Officer shall ensure the effective implementation of AGE Africa Program activities in her/his catchment area. This includes but is not limited to:
- Identification and assessment of new scholarship beneficiaries.
- Facilitate the identification and assessment of students with special educational needs.
- Facilitate the referral of students with special educational needs and SEAH survivors to relevant service providers.
- Timely collection of M&E data from her/his catchment area, including but not limited to student profiles, attendance records, and pre/post-test surveys.
- Produce monthly, quarterly & annual timely program reports to the senior staff/ program coordinator.
- Lead in the implementation of the Creating Healthy Approaches To Success (CHATS) after-school life skills program.
- Weekly monitoring and strengthening of CHATS clubs and sessions.
- Effective recruitment of Faculty Advisors and Mentors to support partner schools and provide adequate supervision to the mentors.
- Establish and manage healthy relationships with school headmasters, Mentors, Faculty Advisors, and community partners.
- Act as an advocate and role model to all mentors, faculty advisors, and program participants.
- Implementation of AGE Africa’s community and parental engagement activities in each school’s catchment area.
- Support other AGE Africa programming as needed.
Staff Training and Supervision.
- Supervise Mentors and Faculty Advisors at partner school sites and provide monthly performance assessments.
- Ongoing capacity building for mentors and school-based Faculty Advisors to support the CHATS implementation and effectively track student progress.
- Ongoing improvement of facilitation skills training for lead facilitators through Faculty Advisors and Mentors.
- Promote CHATS learning visits across schools.
Organizational Learning
- Make curriculum recommendations to senior staff and program adjustments based on lessons learned from implementation.
- Work with mentors and faculty advisors to identify struggling students and report student performance and/or health issues to the team for collective problem-solving.
- Work with the Monitoring Officer and the M&E team to administer pre/post-test and other student monitoring tools.
- Work with FAs to collect school-level data for all students at all schools.
Reporting
- Submit monthly reports to the senior staff /Programs Coordinator about program and student progress.
- Submit requested promotional materials to senior staff/ Programs Coordinator (pictures, writing, etc., and statistics) to effectively communicate AGE Africa’s work to donors.
- Keep accurate financial records and documentation for all program monies placed in your care by the Country Director and Finance Officer.
- Submit financial reports and all receipts on time and accurately completed.
Required Qualifications
- Degree/Diploma in Education, Social Work, Community Development, or related field.
- At least three (3) years’ experience in community work and community mobilization.
- Prior experience in development is required.
- Experience working with teenage youth, extracurricular programming, or a background in Education will be a plus.
- A valid motorbike license and is currently able to ride one.
- Experience in mobile data collection.
- Must be proficient in computer packages PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Proficient in written and oral communication skills.
- Must be a self-starter, organized, multi-task, and able to work independently.
- Must be passionate about gender issues, gender equity, and girls’ education.
- Ready to start work at short notice.
This position reports immediately to AGE Africa’s Regional program coordinator. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and years of experience. AGE Africa provides a benefits package that includes healthcare, transport, communication, housing allowance, and pension fund.
