Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) is an International Non-Governmental Organization working in over 30 countries around the world. It is a member of the worldwide ACT-Alliance, comprised of 140 churches and church-related organizations cooperating on humanitarian assistance, advocacy and development. Norwegian Church Aid has been working in Malawi since 2002 and in 2021, NCA joined forces with DCA and are operating as a joint country programme (JCP) in Malawi with Strategic Priorities for the period 2021-2024 being, Gender based violence (GBV), Climate Smart Economic empowerment (CSEE) and Fighting inequality (Fl).

In 2021 NCA merged with DanChurchAid to form Malawi Joint Country Program (JCP). The JCP was created to enhance synergy and positive sustainable development in the lives of the poor and marginalized people in the target communities of Malawi and to reduce costs and increase efficiency and effectiveness.

For NCA/DCA to continue developing its and partnersโ€™ programmes in Malawi, NCA/ DCA is seeking experienced persons with solid knowledge and skills to fill the following vacant position in the Country office based in Lilongwe:

FINANCE ASSISTANT

Reports to: Finance Coordinator

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist in financial management of NORAD, Transform and other projects as assigned, budgeting, revision, reporting and auditing.
  • Monitor partners in projects financial performance. Provide capacity building, guidance and maintain close follow up.
  • Coordinate with procurement for the procurement needs of the projects responsible for.
  • Prepare, remit taxes and issue withholding tax certificate to suppliers on payments.
  • Manage office petty cash.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Support in preparation of payments, filling of documents and making sure that tax compliance is followed.
  • Support in entering data in Maconomy and other tasks whenever needed.
  • Support the Finance Coordinator in terms of information for projects, financial reporting, consolidating partner budget, preparing transfer to partners, filing of documents related to finance.
  • Work with budget responsible persons on assigned projects on regular budget update and discussions on changes.
  • Ensure that all project payments are made according to the organizations financial management and local procedures.

Education, Qualifications and Experience:

  • BA in Accounting with 4-6 yearsโ€™ experience in the areas of office accounting, budgeting, reconciliation, reporting and partner monitoring.
  • Knowledge of any accounting packages.
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English is required.
  • Demonstrated competency in Microsoft Office packages especially in MS Excel
  • Solid ability to communicate concisely, respectfully, and with impact.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing requirements and needs.

Language Requirements:
