HEAD OF OPERATIONS

 

Press Trust, Malawiโ€™s foremost local charitable institution, seeks the services of Head of Operations. The position is tenable in Lilongwe.

Press Trust is a Trust Fund which is governed by the Press Trust Reconstruction Act and administered for the benefit of the people of Malawi. The Trust holds a diversified commercial investment portfolio in both listed and unlisted companies. The main mandate of Press Trust is to fund diverse socio-economic development programmes throughout the country.

JOB PURPOSE
Reporting to the Executive Secretary, the Head of Operations is accountable for ensuring formulation and implementation of sound investment and social development policies, programmes, strategies and procedures of the Trust.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Being in-charge of all aspects of the operations of Press Trust;
  • Preparing sound investment and social development plans;
  • Advising Management and the Board of Trustees on all investments and social development programmes;
  • Managing the diversified investment portfolio of the Trust Fund most of which is in the following sectors; agro-processing, banking & financial services, tourism and hospitality, oil & gas, manufacturing, diverse goods and services, and real estate;
  • Representing the interests of Press Trust on the boards of subsidiary and associated companies of Press Trust;
  • Appraising investment proposals and making appropriate recommendations to Management and the Board of Trustees;
  • Treasury management in liaison with the Finance Department;
  • Liaising with external fund managers;
  • Overall in-charge of the preparation and publication of annual reports;
  • Providing in-house training and recommending areas of further training for members of staff of the Operations Department;
  • Managing social development programmes of Press Trust in the social sectors of education, health, water supply, social welfare, environmental conservation and disaster relief;
  • Monitoring and managing the evaluation of all the activities of the Trust; and
  • Performing any other duties assigned by the Trust.

REQUIREMENTS AND KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Education: Masterโ€™s Degree in Economics, Project Management, Finance, or any related relevant qualification.
  • Minimum Experience: At least 5 years of hands-on experience at senior executive leadership level in dealing with project, financial and investment management issues.
  • Competencies: project management, grants management, strategic management, analytical, negotiation, reporting and communication skills.
