Overview
Smile Life Insurance Company Limited, a reputable Malawian based Life Insurance company, invites applications from suitably qualified individuals to fill the following position:
INTERNAL AUDITOR
Reporting to the Chairman of Audit Risk and Compliance Committee.
Location: Blantyre
Minimum Qualification and Experience Required
- Bachelorโs degree in Auditing, Accounting, Finance or a related field or a professional qualification in accounting or auditing i.e. Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)/ Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA),
- Minimum of 3 years practical working experience in internal or external audit that includes performing audits in a multi-cultural environment.
- Those with insurance background will have an added advantage.
Skills and Competencies Required
- Team player and ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate at all levels throughout the organization.
- Good understanding of the financial services industry, particularly Life Insurance, and Asset Management.
- Computer literacy proficiency (MS Office).
- Ability to analyze and synthesize data.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Participate in the preparation of risk-based annual audit plans for Smile Life Insurance Company.
- Document, evaluate and test systems and controls for all assigned audit engagements to determine their adequacy and effectiveness.
- Prepare internal audit reports for audit assignments.
- Maintain and keep up to date, documentation for all processes and procedures under audit.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the risk management process by assessing risks and controls documented by the risk department and identifies and documents additional risks which may not be included.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of counter-terrorism anti-money laundering risk management processes.
- Prepare concise and well-organized working papers which accurately reflect the results of audit tests performed.
- Help build trust by verifying that the companyโs operations are conducted with honesty, transparency, and compliance with internal and external regulations.
- Enhance the credibility and reliability of Smile Life Insurance companyโs operations, financial statements, and reporting by providing an independent and objective assessment.
- Instill confidence in policyholders, shareholders, regulators, and other stakeholders that the company is operating with integrity and maintaining high standards of trust.
- Work closely with risk management and compliance officers to ensure that risks are appropriately managed, and that the companyโs risk profile is within acceptable limits.
- Ensure compliance by assessing the adequacy of the companyโs internal controls, policies, and procedures to meet regulatory requirement
- Any other duties as assigned by the Board.
