The Agricultural Research and Extension Trust (ARET) is Malawi’s premier institution in tobacco research, extension and training services. Established in 1995 and funded primarily by tobacco growers, ARET’s core activities include development and dissemination of tobacco technologies and training of tobacco stakeholders in order to sustain and improve agricultural productivity while conserving the natural resources.

An opportunity has arisen for highly motivated professionals with requisite academic qualifications and technical expertise to fill existing vacant posts that have arisen in ARET as follows:-

LABORATORY TECHNICIAN (1 POST)

The Candidate
We are locking for a meticulous laboratory technician who will ably thrive in a fast-paced environment that requires an individual with drive, enthusiasm and good time management. The ideal candidate will support laboratory-based scientific investigations by carrying out routine technical tasks and experiments.

Tenable at: Mwimba College of Agriculture in Kasungu

Key Function

Undertaking a variety of technical support to academic staff, the successful candidate’s role will mainly involve ensuring that laboratory equipment is functioning properly and is ready for use, and the right materials are available for particular lessons.

He/she will work closely with students to explain or demonstrate experiments or how to use equipment, and will also help academic staff with a class and support individual students on research projects.

Qualifications and Experience

• Malawi Schools Certificate of Education
• Diploma in Agriculture from a recognized institution of higher learning
• Three years of relevant experience. Applicants with prior experience working in academic and research settings will have an added advantage.
