Habitat for Humanity Malawi (HFHM), affiliated to Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit Christian Organization aiming at improving housing conditions in Malawi.  HFHM was established in Malawi in 1986 and has assisted over 75,000 families through different housing solutions.  In addition to housing, HFHM has undertaken water and sanitation projects and Disaster Response and Recovery in peri-urban and rural areas.

Habitat for Humanity Malawi has the following vacant position to be filled in support of its MEAL coordination for all its projects in Malawi.

Job Summary:          The main purpose of this role is to lead on ensuring the quality and accountability of our work, bringing immediate and lasting changes in the lives of our beneficiaries. To bring significant experience and fresh ideas to lead on MEAL system implementation, review and evaluations, MEAL budgeting, as well as support to proposal writing and log frame development. S/he will guide HFHM to maintain an effective monitoring system across all sectors, including the use of beneficiary feedback data, community-based monitoring, to assure the quality of interventions. The MEAL Coordinator will lead on building capacity of staff and partners on MEAL but particularly on accountability and participation of implementing partners. Ultimately, s/he will ensure that the program has evidence-based knowledge to inform the direction of the program from assessment and regular program monitoring documents.
Reports To:   National Director and SMT
Main Responsibilities :
  • Ensure effective and efficient implementation of the program Monitoring and Evaluation plan including periodically reviewing the MEAL plan to ensure it is fit for purpose (10%).
  • Develop measurement methods and identify data sources for project performance and impact indicators at project and program levels, in conjunction with the program team (20%).
  • Ensure that project data are entered and updated on a timely basis by all responsible officers and develop quarterly and annual work plans and associated budgets for M&E related activities (20%).
  • In liaison with program teams, manage the undertaking of project progress periodic surveys, regular update of the project log frame, Individual Household Method (End line and End of Project Evaluation) (10%).
  • Undertakes project visits and checks how accurately tools for data gathering are being completed and provides assistance to field staff as well as draft regular M&E project reports and manage the preparation of project evaluation and/or review reports (20%).
  • Participate in the drafting of quarterly, annual, and other reports required by HFHM and/or the donor with inputs from the program teams (5%).
  • Support and collaborate with advocacy, communications, and media colleagues to ensure all data used for publications and media products are accurate as well as lead the documentation and dissemination of allocated project achievements and lessons learned (5%).
  • Facilitate capacity building of program staff to collect data & contribute to development of the knowledge management system (5%).
  • Contribute to knowledge networks and communities of practice related to M&E (5%).
  • To maintain complaints and feedback tracking database and do follow ups on complaints to reach a resolution involving relevant project/program staff.
Educational Qualifications: A first degree in Social Sciences, project planning & management or other related discipline.
Experience Required:
  • At least 4 years relevant working experience in MEAL roles in donor funded projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice in Project Cycle Management and MEAL
  • Knowledge and experience in result-based M&E frameworks, indicator tracking, M&E systems development, development of data collection tools, data analysis and report writing.
  • Practical knowledge and skills of database development/management and statistical analysis
  • Excellent knowledge of full Windows Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access)
