Overview
Malawi Catering Services Limited wishes to invite applications from suitably qualified individuals of Malawian origin to fill the following vacant positions tenable at its Head Offices at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe.
MCSL is looking for dynamic and independent professionals to work in various positions that have fallen vacant. The candidates should be experienced, flexible, enthusiastic, and with an “I can-do attitude” to join our team as follows: –
1. FINANCE MANAGER (1 Position)
Duties
- Oversee preparation of monthly management accounts and annual statutory financial statements
- Monitor and control revenue accounting processes in the company and advise on any deviations, overruns, and flexing of budgets.
- Formulate measures to address cash flow deficits
- Consolidate annual budgets and annual financial statements for MCSL, monitor and control expenditure patterns of the company
- Maintain good working relationships with the company’s financial partners, clients, and Banks in the course of business dealings
- Prepare periodic financial reports and analyze variances for submission to Management and the Board
- Review and maintain sound financial and accounts management systems
- Monitor and control expenditure to ensure adherence to budget policies, systems, and procedures and advise, the Board, management, and stakeholders on financial matters expenditure monitored and controlled in reflection of the budget
- Ensure that legal payment obligations, e.g. salaries, taxes, pension contributions, licenses, and subscriptions are met as they fall dues
- Approve all batches before they are posted in the accounting system
- Ensuring that all statutory reporting requirements are met on time
- Facilitate and monitor bank transfers and payments
- Ensure that debt collection is up to date and payment to creditors is done in a proper manner
- Lead in the preparation and implementation of external audits
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or its Equivalent
- Master’s Degree in Accounting/Finance/Business Administration or ACCA, ACA, and/or CIMA qualification
- Be a member of ICAM
- At least five (5) years of experience in accounting

2. COMPLIANCE AND QUALITY CONTROL OFFICER (1 Position)
Reporting directly to the Internal Audit Manager shall be responsible for ensuring that all food products and services meet the company’s quality standards and regulatory requirements. The role shall also have a dotted reporting relationship to the Operations Manager to support quality assurance initiatives and enhance overall operational efficiency. This involves monitoring food preparation processes, conducting quality inspections, and ensuring compliance with safety and hygiene regulations.
Duties
- Inspect and monitor food preparation and cooking processes to ensure adherence to quality standards and recipes.
- Conduct regular quality checks on food products to ensure they meet safety, hygiene, and taste standards.
- Ensure that all food safety and hygiene regulations are followed in food preparation areas and onboard passenger services.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with health and safety standards, including proper food storage and handling practices
- Conduct periodic audits and inspections to identify and address any potential quality or safety issues.
- Maintain accurate records of quality control inspections, incidents, and corrective actions taken.
- Prepare detailed reports on quality control findings, trends, and recommendations for improvements.
- Provide training and guidance to MCSL staff on quality standards, food safety practices, and hygiene procedures.
- Assist in developing and implementing quality control procedures and protocols.
- Stay updated on industry standards and best practices to ensure the company’s quality control processes are current and effective.
- Utilize customer feedback system to obtain and analyze customer feedback,
Qualification, experience, skills, and knowledge requirements
- Diploma in Hospitality Management required. Candidates studying towards a Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Nutrition, or Hospitality Management will be considered advantageous
- Proven experience in quality control or a similar role in the food industry, preferably within a catering or hospitality setting.
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations, quality standards, and hygiene practices.
Excellent observational skills and attention to detail. - Effective communication and report writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Relevant certifications in food safety and quality control (e.g., HACCP) are preferred.
Additional Information:
The Compliance and Quality Control Officer will be required to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate catering events and onboard services.
The role involves both office and field work, including visits to kitchens and event locations.
3. PROCUREMENT OFFICER (1 Position)
Reporting to the General Manager, the Procurement Officer’s role will be to develop and maintain a strong and efficient procurement function in line with the rules and regulations as provided for in the Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets (PPDA) Act of 2017 and Procurement Regulations 2020.
Key Responsibilities
- Overseeing and supervising employees: and activities in the procurement department
- Expediting the requisition process of goods, works and services for the company
- Preparing plans for the purchase of equipment, services, supplies and disposal of assets,
- Spearheading the preparation of the annual procurement plan
- Analyzing and checking of the movement of stocks in the company
- Maintaining and updating supplier information relevant to the company
- Preparation of various reports related to procurement on monthly, quarterly and annual basis
- Maintaining good supplier relations and negotiating contracts
- Researching and evaluating prospective suppliers
- Performing any other duties as assigned by the superiors.
Qualification/Experience/Attributes
- Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management or any related field from a reputable and accredited institution.
- Must have 3 to 5 years of continuous professional experience in the procurement field in public procurement and a busy environment
- Must be between 30 and 45 years of age.
- Demonstrated skills in bidding and tendering processes
- Strong knowledge of public procurement and disposal of assets, as well as the rules and regulations provided in the PPDA Act 2017.
- Demonstrate high degree of leadership qualities and of sober habits
- Possession of a clean Driving License
- Possession of a strong sense of ethical behavior and personal integrity.
4. INTERNAL AUDIT ASSISTANT (1 Position)
Duties
- Contributing to developing and implementing risk-based annual internal audit plans:
- Assisting in conducting audits in line with the approved Internal Audit Plans or/and investigations on management request;
- Presentation of clear, concise, and timely working papers in line with International Internal Auditing Standards;
- Timely delivery of professionally written draft reports and practical value-added recommendations on issues arising during audit work;
- Regularly updating the Audit Findings Tracker with the status of previous internal and external audit recommendations every month to ensure that corrective actions have been implemented;
- Assisting in developing and maintaining productive business relationships across all units in MCSL business units;
- Participating in assessing and evaluating the effectiveness of accounting, administrative, and other management systems and procedures;
- Assisting in monitoring and reviewing risk registers to identify and manage emerging risks and ensure that risk mitigation strategies are effective; and
- Helping in training staff on risk management processes and best practices to enhance their understanding and implementation of risk controls.
Qualification, experience, skills, and knowledge requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Internal Auditing or Accountancy.
- A minimum of 1 year of proven experience in either internal or external auditing
- Membership to the Institute of Internal Auditors Malawi (IAM) or Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (ICAM).
- Knowledge of the tourism industry and hospitality will be an added advantage
- Excellent ICT skills and proficiency in using the Hotel Master System
- Always acting professionally and ethically including observing the confidential nature of Internal Audit’s work.
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively at all levels.
- Knowledge of the tourism industry will be an added advantage.
Excellent technical audit and accounting skills. - Ability to present adequate working papers to enable the Risk, Compliance & Audit Specialist to assess work done and matters to be reported
- Highly organized with strong organization and planning skills, ability to priorities tasks and deliver assigned audits in line with the audit plan.
5. PLANT SUPERVISOR (1 Position)
Duties
a) Processing
- Operating the water bottling plant
- Ensure a cost-effective use of labor, packaging, and other processing inputs
- Timely production of bottled water to meet expected targets.
- Enforcing strict and effective plant and facility standard operating procedures
- Adhering to plant maintenance standards
- Ensuring that all processing records are completed and kept accurately on daily production sheets
b) Packaging
- Monitoring packaging efficiency.
- Ensuring that quality labels have been stuck correctly on all bottles, and internal and external information requirement is contained on each bottle before dispatch.
- Monitor plant standard operating procedures.
- Monitors documentation relating to packaging activities
- Supervise all samples that are drawn per each production batch and submit them to the laboratory timely
c) Supervision
- Supervise labor force in both the processing and packaging plant
- Manage packaging waste
- Make daily decisions on staffing requirements, work procedures or duty assignments, considering budgeting objectives.
d) ISO
- Compliance with relevant ISO procedures

- Diploma in manufacturing/production, those with a Degree will have an added advantage

6. PLUMBER (1 Position)
Duties
- Operating the water bottling plant
- Install, repair, and maintain pipes, valves, fittings, drainage systems, and fixtures in commercial and residential structures.
- Collaborate with other plant operators, electricians,
- Follow production line processes and procedures and blueprints
- Respond to, diagnose, and resolve plumbing emergencies
- Perform routine inspections of plumbing and drainage systems
- Keep accurate records of description of work performed and materials used
- Any other plumbing works that may arise from time to time.
Qualification and Experience
- Grade 1/level 3 in plumbing or equivalent qualification
- At least two (2) years of work experience in the plumbing field

7. ELECTRICIAN (1 POSITION)
Duties
- Operating the water bottling plant
- Install and repair electrical wiring, systems, and fixtures in the plant.
- Install conduits and pipes, electrical wires, and cables.
- Ensure piping complies with electrical codes
- Install circuit breakers and other electrical hardware and connect wiring
- Keep accurate records of repairs carried out, description of work performed and materials used, and dates
- Any other electrical works that arise from time to time.
Qualification and Experience
- Grade 1/level 3 electrical or equivalent qualification
- At least two (2) years of work experience as an electrician
- Physically fit and of sober habits

8. GENERAL FITTER (1 POSITION)
Duties
- Operating the water bottling plant
- Fit and assemble metal/plastic parts and subassemblies to fabricate production machines and other equipment.
- Carry out repairs and maintenance of the plant
- Keep accurate records of repairs carried out, description of work performed and materials used, and dates.
Qualification and Experience
- Grade 1/level 3 in general fitting or equivalent qualification
- At least two (2) years of work experience in the general fitting field
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities/Attributes
- Good communication skills
- Ability to act promptly on general fitting issues
- Ability to pay attention to detail.
- Excellent analytical skills.
