MINISTRY OF HOMELAND SECURITY

Vac. 40/24
Post: Parole Officer (Grade I)
Salary: Within the Grade I salary scale segment
Location: Ministry of Homeland Security

Qualifications

Applicants should be in possession of a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: Law, Social Work, Psychology, Divinity, Humanities, Theology, Guidance and Counselling and Security Studies obtained from accredited institutions.

Duties

  1. Monitoring the location and activities of parolees in the community;
  2. Obtaining information about offenders’ past and present behaviors;
  3. Providing recommendations to the National Parole Board;
  4. Managing information regarding offenders in the parole data system;
  5. Monitoring the reintegration of criminal offenders/parolee serving the remainder of sentences;
  6. Providing social services to assist in rehabilitation of law offenders in custody or parole;
  7. Making recommendations for action involving formulation of rehabilitation plan; and,
  8. Preparing and submit reports about parolees to the board for final decision.

Post: Public Works Officer (Grade I)

Location: Department of Prisons Service

Qualifications

Applicants should be in possession of a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: Civil Engineering, Public Works, Project Management, Agriculture Extension, Humanities, Social Work and Psychology obtained from accredited institutions.

Duties

  1. Supervising of persons convicted to perform public works in the communities;
  2. Maintaining residential punishment register;
  3. Monitoring the places of placement and labor camps;
  4. Providing material and social assistance to the convicts;
  5. Advising, assisting and endeavoring to find employment on which persons sentenced to public works should be engaged.

Qualifications

Applicants should be in possession of a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: Law, Security Studies, Social Work, Criminology, Guidance and Counselling, Psychology or Sociology obtained from accredited institutions.

Duties

  1. Preparing pre-sentence investigations reports to assist the court in matters pertaining to sentencing;
  2. Monitoring and evaluating probation services programmes and activities;
  3. Exercising general supervision over the making or keeping of records by subordinate officers;
  4. Conducting investigations on any complaint against subordinate officers in the execution of their duties;
  5. Supervising and monitoring cases assigned by the courts.

Qualifications:

Duties

  1. Preparing and submitting reports about parolees to the parole board for final decision;
  2. Screening and reviewing lists of prisoners recommended for presidential clemency;
  3. Selecting and placing prisoners on parole;
  4. Conducting routine inspection of prisoners records to determine those eligible for early release;
  5. Discharging parolees when their sentence expires;
  6. Promoting community awareness and education.

Qualifications

Applicants should be in possession of a diploma in any of the following fields: Law, Social Work, Guidance and Counselling or Community Development obtained from recognized institutions.

Duties

  1. Providing material and social assistance and interventions to a probationer;
  2. Making preliminary inquiries into the home surroundings as the court may direct;
  3. Preparing and submitting reports about parolees to the parole board for final decision;
  4. Determining nature of treatment and rehabilitative programs for offenders;
  5. Visiting from time to time the places of resistance of probationers.

 

 

MINISTRY OF INFORMATION AND DIGITALISATION

Post: Matron (Grade K)

Salary: Within the (Grade K) salary scale segment
Location: NACIT – Blantyre Campus

Qualifications:

Applicants Should be in possession of Diploma in General Nursing, Community Health Nursing or Public Health, obtained from recognized institutions.

Duties

(a) Supervising staff in the dispensary and hostel;

(b) Allocating students in hostel;

(c) Reporting faults to the maintenance section;

(d) Coordinating internal checks on cleanliness of hostels and kitchen, sickness and discipline of students;

(e) Investigating students acts of misconduct and reporting same to Management;

(f) Supervising staff on purchasing of drugs and caterer on food stuffs appropriate for students.

 

 

MINISTRY OF JUSTICE

Post: Bill Transcriber (Grade I)
Salary: Within the Grade I salary scale segment
Location: Ministry of Justice

Qualifications

Applicants should be in possession of either a Bachelor of Arts (Languages) or Bachelor of Education (Languages) obtained from accredited institutions; Should demonstrate competence in Quark Express: have experience in transcribing documents for publication and be in possession of Paralegal Certificate.

Duties

  1. Preparing draft revised pages of the Laws of Malawi;
  2. Proof-reading Author Proofs of the revised pages;
  3. Preparing Law Revision Order of Approval;
  4. Transcribing Bills and Subsidiary Legislation for publication;
  5. Processing publication of Bills and Subsidiary Legislation;
  6. Preparing corrigenda where necessary on the published legislation;
  7. Supervising Assistant Bill Transcriber and other subordinate staff;
  8. Carrying out any other duties as assigned from time to time.

Post: Assistant Bill Transcriber (Grade K)
Salary: Within the Grade K salary scale segment
Location: Ministry of Justice

Qualifications

Applicants should be in possession of a Diploma in Graphic Media Studies, obtained from accredited institutions; should demonstrate competence in Quark Express and have experience in transcribing documents for publication.

Duties

  1. Transcribing Bills and Subsidiary Legislation for publication;
  2. Preparing revised pages of the Laws of Malawi;
  3. Filing Bills, Acts, Government Notices, General Notices and Corrigenda in appropriate files;
  4. Preparing and updating indexes if various Bills, Acts, Government Notices, General Notices and Corrigenda;
  5. Carrying out any other duties as assigned from time to time.

 

 

MINISTRY OF LABOUR

Post: Teacher / Instructor (Brick Laying) (Grade TI)
Salary: Within the Grade TI salary scale segment
Location: Ministry of Labour

Qualifications 

Applicants should be either serving officers with a minimum of three (3) years teaching experience in public technical colleges and be holders of Malawi Advanced Craft in Bricklaying or TEVET Advanced (Level 3) or City and Guilds (Part 2) in Bricklaying or non- serving in possession of Technical Education, obtained from accredited institutions and a Malawi Advanced Craft or TEVET Advanced (Level 3) or City and Guilds (part 2) in Bricklaying.

Duties

  1. Preparing schemes of work and lesson plan for bricklaying class;
  2. Teaching /Lecturing students;
  3. Ordering and orginising teaching and learning materials for both theory and practical lessons;
  4. Ensuring discipline among students;
  5. Maintaining class register and student progress records;
  6. Reporting losses of tools and equipment’s to the Head of department;
  7. Serving in Colleges Committees;
  8. Ensuring that his/her class is clean and that students are adhering to classroom and workshop rules and regulations.

Post: Workshop Technician (Automobile Mechanics) (Grade K)
Salary: Within the (Grade K) salary scale segment
Location: Ministry of Labour

Qualifications

Applicants Should be in possession of either Malawi Advanced Craft Certificate, Malawi Advanced TEVET Certificate or City and Guilds part 2 Certificate in Automobile/Motor Vehicle Mechanics acquired after a successful completion of a recognized indentured apprenticeship in the profession plus Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE).

Duties

  1. Teaching according to approved Motor Vehicle Mechanics syllabus and methodology
  2. Assessing, recording and reporting on students progress;
  3. Preparing schemes of work and lesson plan;
  4. Organizing teaching and learning materials for both theory and practical lessons;
  5. Enforcing student discipline;
  6. Maintaining class register and student progress records;
  7. Maintaining available tools and equipment in the section;
  8. Enforcing classroom and workshop rules and regulations.

Documentary evidence of major requirements specified in the advertisement shall be required during interviews. Serving officers will also be required to demonstrate during the interviews that they are permanent and pensionable officers in the Civil Service by producing letters of confirmation in appointment in addition to letters of condition of appointment on probation (PSR 19).
