Overview

Malawi Catering Services Limited wishes to invite applications from suitably qualified individuals of Malawian origin to fill the following vacant positions tenable at its Head Offices at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) in Lilongwe.

MCSL is looking for dynamic and independent professionals to work in various positions that have fallen vacant. The candidates should be experienced, flexible, enthusiastic, and with an “I can-do attitude” to join our team as follows:

 

1. PACKAGING OPERATOR (1 Position)

Duties

  • Operating the water bottling plant
  • Operating the machinery used for packaging products in the production area daily.
  • Starting up and stopping the machine as necessary, including refilling packaging material.
  • Performing routine checks to ensure that the machine is in an operational state.
  • Executing preventative maintenance on the machine and maintaining the cleanliness of equipment and the work area
  • Performing routine checks to ensure that the machine is in an operational state.

  • Ensuring the correct packaging is used and that packaging is done in line with the company standards.
  • Inspecting final products
  • Reporting faulty packaging or problems on the machines to the Supervisor.
  • Moving of completed boxes of products to the correct inventory area.
  • Adhering to the safety regulations and protocol implemented in the packaging area.
  • Completing all relevant documentation on the packing and maintenance of the packaging machines
  • Checking expiry dates on all product stickers

Qualification and Experience

  • Grade1/Level 3 General Fitting
  • MCSE
  • At least two (2) years of work experience in packaging

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Good communication skills

  • Physically fit and of sober habits.

 

 

2. LAB TECHNICIAN (1 Position)

Duties

  • Operating the water bottling plant : Pepre taboraton analysis.
  • Apply and understanding of chemical/corrosion theory.
  • Perform equipment repair requirements and calibration checks,
  • Perform laboratory testing following training in test procedures,
  • Perform basic analytical testing with progressive learning of new test procedures and data interpretation,
  • Maintains data per company standards,

Qualification and Experience

  • Technician Diploma in the laboratory or its equivalent qualification
  • At least two (2) years of work experience in the laboratory field

3. PASTRY CHEFS (4 positions)

Duties

  • Preparing, cooking, garnishing, and pass-service meals (including breakfast grilling and buffets) for the restaurant, banqueting, and other food outlets.
  • Prepares a la carte and set menu dishes of medium complexity and variation.
  • Preparing basic sauces, soups, and vegetables and cook dishes by grilling, frying, roasting, boiling, baking, special recipes, etc.
  • Ensuring that all food is of excellent quality and served promptly.
  • Preparing various delicious desserts, pastries, and sweet goods. Creating new and enticing recipes, decorating pastries to ensure beautiful presentation, and maintaining the quality of ingredients and equipment.
  • Planning menus while keeping in mind the budget and availability
  • Preparing a wide variety of goods such as cakes, cookies, pies, bread etc. following traditional and modern recipes
  • Creating new and exciting desserts to renew our menus and engage the interest of customers
  • Decorating pastries using different icings, toppings etc. to ensure the presentation will be beautiful and exciting
  • Monitoring stocks for baking ingredients such as flour, sugar etc. and make appropriate orders within budget
  • Checking quality of material and condition of equipment and devices used for cooking
  • Guiding and motivating Pastry Assistants and Bakers to work efficiently
  • Identifying staffing needs and helping in recruitment and training.

 

 

4. CHEFS (5 positions)

Duties

  • Preparing and cooking meals according to restaurant standards, ensuring consistency in taste, appearance, and portion sizes;
  • Assist in creating new recipes and updating menus with innovative dishes, seasonal offerings, and customer preferences;
  • Oversee the presentation and taste of food, ensuring that all dishes meet high-quality standards before serving;
  • Manage day-to-day kitchen operations, including scheduling, delegating tasks, and ensuring a clean and organized workspace;
  • Monitor food supplies and ingredients, maintain inventory levels, and order supplies when necessary to ensure smooth kitchen operations;
  • Work within the allocated food budget, minimize waste, and maintain food cost controls through efficient portioning and inventory management;
  • Control is maintained to ensure operating equipment is used properly and not abused and that all maintenance problems are timeously reported and followed up;
  • Supervise and mentor junior kitchen staff, ensuring they follow proper cooking techniques, food handling, and sanitation procedures;
  • Ensure all food safety regulations are followed, including proper storage, sanitation, and preparation practices. Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
  • Work closely with the Executive Chef or Head Chef to ensure consistency in meal preparation and quality across all shifts.
  • Addressing any special dietary requirements, food allergies, or customer preferences in a timely and professional manner.

Qualifications/Skills/Attributes

  • Diploma in Culinary Arts or Food Production and management,
  • At least 3-5 years of experience working in a professional kitchen, preferably in a supervisory or leadership role,
  • Expertise in various cooking techniques and cuisines,
  • Creativity and ability to develop new dishes,
  • Strong organizational and time management skills,
  • Leadership and team management abilities,
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality,
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment,
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene regulations,
  • Ability to stand for long periods, work in a high-temperature environment

Working Conditions:

  • The role involves working early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • The Chef may be required to work in a busy kitchen environment with exposure to high heat.

 

 

5. PACKAGING ASSISTANT (2 Positions)

Duties

  1. Assisting in lifting water casing to the storage and delivery rooms by use of a forklitt
  2. Assisting in making sure that the forklift is in a serviceable state
  3. Assisting in stacking all products per required standards
  4. Assisting in loading and offloading of goods
  5. Assisting in ensuring that equipment is safely stowed
  6. Assist in performing any other duties as assigned from time to time

Qualification and Experience

  • MSCE
  • 2 to 3 years of experience
  • Physically fit and of sober habits

6. STORES CLERK (1 Position)

Duties

  • Pack store items properly
  • Clean the store.
  • Keep track of inventory.
  • Create displays for products.
  • Receive and issue water products to internal customers, and sales representatives/drivers
  • Checking storage stacking all the time to avoid bottle breakages and spillages

Qualification

  • Diploma in Purchasing and Supply Chain
  • MSCE
  • 2 years in a similar position

7. SALES ASSISTANT (1 Position)

Duties

  • Driving sales van to established routes of delivery within Malawi
  • Selling company products to all customers
  • Identify and pitch new markets and customers Servicing existing accounts, obtaining orders,
  • Establish new accounts by planning and organizing daily work schedules for all potential sales routes
  • Keep management informed by submitting activity and results reports on a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis
  • Resolving customer complaints by investigating problems, developing solutions, preparing reports, and making recommendations to management
  • Debt collection, reconciling debtors accounts

Qualifications/Attributes

  • Diploma in Sales and Marketing with a recognized and accredited institution
  • MSCE
  • 2 to 3 years work experience in a similar position
  • Physically fit and of sober habits

8. VAN DRIVER (SALES) (1 Position)

Duties

  • Driving sales van to established routes of delivery within Malawi
  • Receiving cash from customers and banking the cash with the Accounts office
  • Maintaining customer relationships with customers
  • Analyzing territory/market’s potential, track sales and status reports
  • Present, promote and sell water products to existing and prospective customers

Qualifications/Attributes

  • Certificate in sales and marketing
  • MSCE
  • Driving license – class C1 category GD
  • 2 to 3 years of experience
  • Physically fit and of sober habits
