Overview

The Malawi Broadcasting Corporation is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following vacant positions:

 

1. DISTRICT REPORTERS (three years contract)

The purpose of the positions is to attain nationwide news coverage on our platforms and the targeted districts are: Chitipa, Karonga, Rumphi, Nkhatabay, Mzimba, Kasungu, Ntchisi, Dowa, Nkhotakota, Likoma, Salima, Mchinji, Dedza, Ntcheu, Balaka, Machinga, Zomba, Mulanje, Phalombe, Chiradzulu, Nsanje, Chikwawa, Mwanza and Neno.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Generating news ideas for Radio, Television and Online platforms.
Covering news at the district level and reporting on the same for MBCโ€™s bulletins and other current affairs programmes.
Covering breaking news and planned assignments.
Providing accurate and timely news content for MBCโ€™s platforms i.e. Radio, Television and Online Reporting on a wide range of topics e.g. politics, elections, social issues, business, economics, culture, sports and current affairs among others.
Meeting strict deadlines for submitting reports for Radio, Television and Online. Liaising with Regional Chief Editors on daily news prospects.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Diploma in Journalism/ Media Studies/ Mass Communication from a reputable institution. A degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.
At least two years of working experience. Those with past election reporting experience will have an added advantage. Good interviewing, analytical and reporting skills. Sound writing skills with a good command of English and Chichewa.

 

 

2. MOTOR VEHICLE AND STANDBY GENSETS MECHANIC

The successful candidate will have a primary role in maintaining a fleet of reliable motor vehicles at all times.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintaining vehicle functionality
Diagnosing faults and repair failures as necessary
Rectifying mechanical and electrical malfunctioning
Replacing parts and components whenever necessary
Carrying out periodic checks on vehicles and advise on required interventions
Preparing vehicles for Certificate of Fitness
Carrying out routine service according to schedules
Inspecting vehicles before long trips and making recommendations
Maintaining inventory for fast-moving parts and tools
Maintaining the Corporation generators
Compiling periodic reports.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
MSCE
Advanced Craft Certificate in Motor Vehicle Mechanics (obtained from a recognized institution)
Grade 1 National Trade Test in Mechanics and Auto Electrics
A clean SADC Driverโ€™s Licence
A minimum of five years of hands-on experience in a busy workshop.

 

 

3. SECURITY GUARDS ( nine positions for six months effective 1 April 2024 )

The successful candidates will join a team of well-trained and experienced guards to reinforce the revised security demands for the Corporation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Guarding the transmission sites, office premises, personnel and property of the Corporation.
Checking credentials of visitors before allowing them access to MBC facilities; including luggage and identity verification, updating visitors and vehicle registers,
Recording all outgoing and incoming equipment of the Corporation
Vehicle escort during night shifts.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES:
MSCE
Ex-Malawi Police Service or Malawi Defense Force Officer with a clean track record
Be of sober habits.
