Overview
John of God Hospitaller Services Malawi is a non-profit faith-based healthcare organization established in 1994 to contribute to the development of health for all Malawians including the vulnerable, marginalized, and excluded groups. With its operations in both Lilongwe and Mzuzu, St John of God Malawi is a key provider of tertiary and community-based mental health promotion and care; early intervention services, special needs and inclusive education for children with both intellectual and physical disability; vocational training for orphans & vulnerable youth including those with a disability; health care and ancillary services for older persons; psychosocial counselling, stress, and addiction management services; rehabilitation of street children; self-help group approach for women empowerment and tertiary level training in Psychiatric Nursing, Clinical Medicine- Psychlatry & Mental Health, Psychosocial Counselling and General Nursing.
Saint John of God (SJOG) Malawi would like to fill the following positions based in Mzuzu:
1. LECTURER IN PSYCHOTHERAPY
The position
Reporting to the Head of the Psychosocial Counselling Department, the Lecturer will be expected to teach students at the undergraduate level: planning, managing, and leading lectures, tutorials, and seminars, and facilitating student-led groups such as involvement in the assessment of students, as well as in the development and evaluation of teaching and assessment strategies
Responsibilities (which include, but are not limited to);
- Preparing lectures and delivering course content in a professional and timely manner
- Preparing and administering formative and summative assessments
- Preparing and conducting clinical teaching and assessments
- Assist in supervising research students in writing their dissertations
- Critically analysing studentsโ performance in the subjects, he/she is responsible for according to set standards and making adjustments accordingly
- Initiating and conducting research
Requirements
- Masterโs Degree in Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology or Counselling from an accredited and internationally recognised institution.
- A minimum of two years of clinical and teaching experience in a recognised tertiary institution.
- Good communication skills
- Duly registered with the Medical Council of Malawi
- Strict adherence to the organisationโs Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy.
2. LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST
The Position
Reporting to the Head of Basic Sciences Department, the Laboratory Technologist will support in designing and executing laboratory/ workshop activities according to standard procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory procedures as assigned by the supervisor for pre-examination, examination, and post-examination activities through the use of the standard relevant equipment.
- Facilitate laboratory stock management and monitor that the equipment and consumables are sufficient for the anticipated work.
- Maintain, repair and clean laboratory/workshop equipment and accessories.
- Conduct or support demonstrations during workshop/ laboratory/ studio sessions.
- Maintaining inventory of all workshop/laboratory/studio resources.
- Implementing, and enforcing occupational, health and safety systems.
- Supporting academic research and outreach services
- Ability to teach Biochemistry, Biophysics or mathematics
Requirements
- Bachelors or Equivalent or Higher degree from an accredited academic institution in Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Sciences, Microbiology or a related discipline with three years of relevant experience.
- At least three years of relevant laboratory experience, preferably in a clinical laboratory;
- Demonstrated technical knowledge and practices in laboratory operations;
- Experience implementing a laboratory quality management system;
- Strict adherence to the organisationโs Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy.
3. SKILLS LABORATORY COORDINATOR
Reporting to the Clinical and Quality Assurance Coordinator, the Skills Laboratory Coordinator will be responsible for managing the skills laboratory to help students link theory to professional practice.
Responsibilities (which include, but are not limited to);
- Coordinate practical sessions between lecturers and Students
- Organize the Skills Laboratory according to the departmental requirements
- Keep records on studentsโ practical skills teaching and individual performance, check-offs, OSCEโs and other relevant student activities in the skills laboratory
- In liaison with Heads of departments identify clinical skills laboratory equipment and supplies requirement and facilitate procurements
- In liaison with clinical placement coordinator, coordinate preparations for studentsโ clinical skills, practical sessions, and assessments
- Participate in studentsโ clinical skills teaching, assessments and clinical supervision
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing & Midwifery/ Clinical Medicine from an accredited University.
- At least four years of clinical experience, teaching/preceptorship
- Duly registered with Nurses & Midwives Council of Malawi/Medical Council of Malawi.
- Strict adherence to the organisationโs Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy.
4. PHARMACIST
The Position
Reporting to the Clinical Director, the Pharmacist will among others, be responsible for dispensing of medications, quality testing, formulating and re-formulating dosage forms, monitoring and reporting drug safety, and preparing budges for medication,
Responsibilities (which include, but are not limited to);
- Prepare and dispense medication, advise patients on their use and manage the pharmacy.
- Preparing all the medications and converting dosage forms to the applicable situation.
- Participating in clinical rounds run by all health care providers
- Provide adequate statistics on medication consumption.
- Managing medication stores and planning for medication budgets.
- Conduct pharmacy-related training for under-and postgraduates
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (Hons)/Pharmacology
- Proven experience as a pharmacist
- Strong customer service abilities
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Registered with Pharmacy Medicines Regulatory Authority (PMRA)
- Strict adherence to the organisationโs Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policy.
