resources. The Company holds an 85% interest in the Kayerekera Uranium Project in Karonga, Malawi.
Lotus is committed to generating value for its shareholders, customers, and communities where it operates. The Company is situated in Karonga, Malawi and has its headquarters in Perth, Australia. Lotus will be undertaking refurbishment and maintenance of the process plant and other facilities in preparation for production set to commence in the near future.

Lotus (Africa) Limited invites applications from suitably qualified energetic and self-motivated male or
female Malawian nationals to join its team on a fixed term contract at Kayelekera Mine in Karonga District
in the position below:

 

1. Instrumentation Technicians (Required 2)

 POSITION SUMMARY

Conduct repair and preventative maintenance to instrumentation and process control systems of the Process Plant to achieve production targets. Ensure compliance with safety, environment and security standards.

REPORTING TO THE ENGINEERING COORDINATOR, THE ROLE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Policies of Lotus (Africa) Limited (LAL), as well as other policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Carrying out electrical repair and preventative maintenance to maintain mobile plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner to achieve production and cost targets.
  • Maintaining and troubleshoot the Process Plant process control system, including PLC’s, Scada and process control network.
  • Ensuring that instrumentation maintenance practices result in maximum mill availability. Meeting or exceeding planned mill availability is a Key Performance Indicator.
  • Completing assigned work in a timely manner with minimum supervision and to an internationally acceptable standard.
  • Keeping workplace in a safe working condition and carry out auto electrical work in a safe, professional and efficient manner.
  • Providing accurate and timely feedback to Electrical Supervisor on conditions that may affect functionality of equipment.
  • Carrying out troubleshooting, fault finding and corrective maintenance in order to solve unplanned equipment unavailability events.
  • Ensuring Supervisors and all stakeholders are kept informed on equipment availability status.
  • Ensure the Oracle maintenance management system is utilised as required by the Electrical Supervisor.
  • Actively participating in training activities to gain new skills, develop full potential and assume increasing accountability.
  • Under the direction of the Electrical Supervisor, providing appropriate on-the-job training and coaching to less experience personnel.
  • Following Safe Work Procedures and other maintenance procedures.
  • Being proactive in all aspects of Process Plant security to prevent and eliminate theft and fraud.
  • Attending regular safety meetings.
  • Ensuring no disruption to work due to industrial relations issues.
  • Carrying out other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Trade qualified – Instrumentation discipline
  • Two years practical work experience in instrumentation maintenance
  • Previous maintenance experience in industrialized plant is beneficial

 2. Auto Electricians (Required 2)

 POSITION SUMMARY

Conduct repair and preventative maintenance to Auto Electrical mobile plant of the Process Plant to achieve production targets. Ensure compliance with safety, environment and security standards.

REPORTING TO THE ENGINEERING COORDINATOR, THE ROLE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Ensuring total adherence to all Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Policies of LAL, as well as other policies, procedures and guidelines.

3. Electricians (Required 4)

 POSITION SUMMARY

The electrician is responsible to maintain the electrical reticulation by ensuring the inspection and maintenance of all electrical installations are done safely and efficiently. Furthermore, new installations as well as improvements to the current installations form part of the area of responsibility.

REPORTING TO THE ENGINEERING COORDINATOR, THE ROLE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Ensuring that at all times operating in line with the Company’s Health and Safety standards of operations
  • Ensuring that all employees are operating equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Ensuring that all electrical equipment is maintained and inspected in a safe manner.
  • Ensuring that all employees and contractors standards of work are in line with the Company’s operating procedures.
  • Supervising the electrical team and distribute daily tasks.
  • Supervising and overseeing the quality and quantity of work performed.
  • Assisting in the planning process and troubleshooting of electrical maintenance.
  • Ensuring that maintenance requests are completed in the shortest time frame possible.
  • Ensuring the mines electrical equipment is maintained to the highest standards through performing daily inspections and planned maintenance.
  • Performing root cause analysis to prevent repeat failures
  • Assisting in ensuring the department has the necessary tools and equipment to successfully operate through the ongoing monitoring of stock levels.
  • Providing ongoing training and support to artisans to ensure the sustainability of the department.
  • Assisting management to continually review and monitor the electrical maintenance procedures in an effort to add value and enhance operations.
  • Provide expertise in processes to minimize electrical consumption and identify opportunities in which process times could be maximized.
  • Be proactive in all aspects of plant security to prevent and eliminate theft.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Trade certification in electrical engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years electrical experience in a mining processing plant.
  • High voltage experience.
  • Uranium mining experience.
  • Experience in training employees.

4. Boiler Maker (Required 5)

 POSITION SUMMARY  

The purpose of this position is to conduct fabrication work, mechanical repair and preventative maintenance to maintain plant structural equipment and piping in a safe and efficient manner to achieve production targets.

REPORTING TO THE ENGINEERING COORDINATOR, THE ROLE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Carrying out mechanical repair and preventative maintenance to maintain plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner to achieve production targets.
  • Ensuring that maintenance practices results in maximum production capabilities
  • Performing fabrication of steel structures/piping and corrective maintenance to improve equipment availability, safety and functionality.
  • Planning replacement of worn or damaged parts for replacement during planned maintenance days.
  • Conducting daily inspections of allocated sections of plant.
  • Providing supervisor with appropriate information regarding equipment availability and problems identified from inspections.
  • Actively participating in training activities to gain and develop new skills
  • Under the direction of supervisor, providing on the job training and coaching to less experienced team members.
  • Completing planned maintenance documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring the workplace is cleaned up after completion of work.
  • Providing elementary corrosion protection to steelwork as required.
  • Providing high quality work by doing the jobs correctly the first time.
  • Being proactive in aspects of Plant security to prevent and eliminate theft and fraud
  • Carrying out other duties as required and directed by the Welding & Piping Supervisor.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Trade qualified Boilermaker
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in similar role
  • Exposure to mining industry
  • Experience in a Uranium processing plant

5. Mechanical Fitters (Required 8)

 POSITION SUMMARY

The objective of this position is to conduct ongoing repairs, plant upgrade and preventative maintenance to maintain plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner to achieve production targets.

REPORTING TO THE ENGINEERING COORDINATOR, THE ROLE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Ensuring that at all times operating in line with the Company’s Health and Safety standards of operations
  • Carrying out mechanical repair and preventative maintenance to maintain plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner to achieve production targets.
  • Ensuring that maintenance practices results in maximum production capabilities

6. Crane Operators (Required 3)

 POSITION SUMMARY

To be part of the construction and maintenance team in supporting the team with all lifting and rigging requirements and making sure that they are done safely.

REPORTING TO THE ENGINEERING COORDINATOR, THE ROLE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Reporting all problems related to the cranes and lifting equipment to the supervisors and or Foreman.
  • Interacting with and support all departments and contractors which are responsible for the building of the plant site and the equipment for mine operation activities, for the Life of Project.
  • Conducting and record daily, weekly, monthly inspections and checklists.
  • Ensuring that the cranes and lifting equipment are kept in a clean safe and working condition.
  • Being able to fully converse in English language and writing in English.
  • Must be in possession of a Malawian Driving license and be able to drive.
  • Must have a full commitment to continually improve on all aspects of the work.
  • Being prepared to partake in the skills and technology transfer to enable effective succession planning.
  • Taking part in the writing of complete lifting plans to enable the safe lifting of equipment.
  • Totally adhering to safety and ensuring that lifts that are not safe are stopped immediately and report to the Supervisor or Foreman.
  • Making sure that the records of all the lifting equipment are kept up to date and all equipment is inspected according to the law requirements.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Working in a mining environment would be an advantage
  • 2 – 4 years Crane Driving experience
  • Valid Crane driver certificate
  • Basic rigging certificate

7. Riggers (Required 3)

POSITION SUMMARY

The rigger is responsible for assembling and installing rigging gear such as cables, ropes, pulleys and winches to lift, lower, move or position machinery, structural steel and other heavy objects within the process plant.

REPORTING TO THE ENGINEERING COORDINATOR, THE ROLE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Ensuring that at all times operating in line with the Company’s Health and Safety standards of operations
  • Barricading appropriate work areas to ensure safety
  • Working with crane drivers and associate riggers with appropriate signals to ensure safety of individuals and equipment
  • Assisting in setting up cranes
  • Utilizing appropriate skills and experience to establish the appropriate rigging equipment to be attached to loads to prepare them for moving
  • Calculating the load bearing capacity of structures for rigging and hardware
  • Manipulate and direct heavy equipment through small openings or tight spaces
  • Test rigging to ensure operational and safe
  • Fabricate set up and repair of rigging equipment
  • Clean and dress machine surfaces and component parts
  • Dismantle and store rigging equipment

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Trade qualification Rigging
  • Minimum of 3 years post apprenticeship experience
  • Exposure to mining industry
  • Experience in uranium process plants
