Overview

BACKGROUND
Banja La Mtsogolo (BLM) is a Malawian Non-Governmental Healthcare Organization established in 1987. BLM
provides quality Family Planning and Reproductive Healthcare including HIV/AIDS information and
interventions. BLM is a senior member of the MSI Reproductive Choices partnership which works in 37 countries globally. BLM exists to improve the quality of life in Malawi through family planning and reproductive health care services. BLM serves over 800,000 clients annually and makes a significant contribution to national family planning objectives. The organization has a national coverage, operating through 24 clinics, and numerous outreach clinic sites.

NURSE PROVIDER (2)
REPORTING LINE: CENTRE MANAGER
DUTY STATIONS: KARONGA AND MZUZU CLINIC (s)

ROLE PURPOSE:
The Nurse Provider will be responsible for providing high quality services in general as well as sexual and
reproductive health (SRH) with excellent customer care, which is in line with MSI/BLM policies and procedures..

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Service Provision

  • Counsel clients and providing advice for family planning, sexual transmitted infections, HIV /AIDs and other SRH services.
  • Assist in the treatment room during surgical procedures.
  • Examine clients and treat STIs and minor ailments.
  • Facilitate under 5 clinic service provision, including but not limited to screening, weighing and immunisation.
  • Prescribe and dispense drugs.
  • Practice high standards of infection prevention at all times while ensuring that clinical protocols are maintained to MSI standards.

Client care

  • In line with BLM standards, provide care to all clients, which has the following qualities: Consistent, Reliable, Courteous, Value for money, Prompt and excellent, as perceived and judged by the clients.
  • Provide โ€˜vocal localโ€™, a MSI conversation technique used to relax clients during procedures.

Record keeping and reporting

  • Routinely maintain accurate records of all procedures and produce reports as necessary.
  • Monitor levels of medical and pharmaceutical supplies.

Marketing and business development

  • In collaboration with other members of the clinic, be innovative to ensuring that the centre is self-sustaining and continuously grow client base whilst retaining existing clients through โ€˜cross-sellingโ€™ BLM services.
  • Support BLM products/services ad hoc promotional events.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Centre Manager from time to time.

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

โ–ช Minimum of Diploma in Nursing and be registered with the Nurses and Midwife Council of Malawi.
โ–ช At least two (2) yearsโ€™ relevant experience.
โ–ช Training in Sexual and Reproductive Health Services
โ–ช Basic knowledge of drug stock control system.
โ–ช Basic computer skills: Outlook, excel, Powerpoint and word.
โ–ช Excellent communication skills.
โ–ช Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients and other team members
โ–ช Must be Pro-choice
