The Times Group, established in 1895, is the biggest and only 360 degrees Media House in Malawi. The Times Groupโ€™s subsidiaries include Times Press, Times Television, Times Radio, Times Courier, TimesCom and Dzuka Publishing Company Limited.

The Times Group invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the position of Online and Digital Editor based at the Head Office, Ginnery Corner, in Blantyre.

The Job

The Online and Digital Editor is a hardcore media practitioner responsible for the creation, editing, formatting and publishing of content on the Groupโ€™s online and digital platforms i.e. Website, Facebook page, Twitter, Instagram, 1895 short code and Times E-Edition. The following are the expected deliverables for the job holder:

  • Creating content for online platforms.
  • Reviewing, editing and approving content submissions from writers while ensuring accuracy and clarity.
  • Collaborating with the Editorial Team to develop content strategies that align with the Companyโ€™s goals and target audience.
  • Managing the publishing schedule and workflow to ensure timely publication of content across digital platforms.
  • Conducting thorough quality checks to identify and correct errors in grammar, punctuation, spellings and formatting.
  • Monitoring audience engagement metrics and feedback to identify trends and opportunities for content improvement.
  • Ensuring compliance to the Companyโ€™s Editorial Policy, Code of Ethics and House Style.
  • Working closely with writers, designers and other team members to brainstorm ideas, provide feedback and ensure cohesive content delivery across different channels.

The Person

Individuals applying for this position must meet the following essential requirements:

  • Have a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism or any relevant qualification
  • Be a hardcore reporter with at least 3 years of experience in a busy newsroom.
  • Have thorough knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Have a creative mind-set, with the passion for engaging online audiences.
  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Have ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast paced environment.
