Overview
The Lilongwe Academy International School (TLAIS) is an international private school, conveniently situated in Area 47/4 Lilongwe behind Silver Stadium. The School is founded on the firm belief that every child is unique, but all children need excellent education and motivation of their spirit, mind and body to be well developed as future responsible citizens and leaders. The Lilongwe Academy now invites applications from Candidates who meet the required qualifications and experience as follows:
Position: Primary Head – Technical Academic
Reporting to: The Principal
Duties:
Among other duties the successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties:
1.0 School Aims
1.1To be responsible for the internal organization, management and control of the school including developing a detailed calendar of events a month before the beginning of each Academic year.
1.2Formulating the overall aims and objectives of the school and policies for their implementation in line with the 2020 to 2023 Strategic Plan.
2.0 Appointment and Management of Staff
2.1 Participating in the selection and appointment of the teaching staff in line with qualifications and experience of the said teachers.
2.2 Deploying and managing all teaching staff in the school and allocating particular duties to them according to their qualifications and experience.
2.3 Ensure that teachers are given clear job descriptions.
2.4 Ensure teachers are oriented and reminded frequently of important instruments through regular training and workshop.
2.5 Ensure that teachers at the school receive information they need in order to carry out their professional duties effectively and staff professional growth is promoted through professional development programs.
2.6 Reporting to the Principal annually on the professional development of all teachers at the school.
3.0 Curriculum and Implementation
3.1Determining, organizing and implementing an appropriate curriculum for the school, having regard to the needs, experience, interests, aptitudes and stage of development of the pupils and the resources available to the school.
4.0 Review
4.1Keeping under review the work and organization of the school.
- Standards of teaching and learning Effect size and six sigma.
4.2Evaluating the standards of teaching and learning in the school and ensuring that proper standards of professional performance are established and maintained.
5.0 Performance management, training, development and induction of staff Core
5.1Supervising and participating in arrangements made in accordance with regulations for the appraisal of the performance of teachers in the school.
5.2Ensuring that all staff in the school have access to advice and training appropriate to their needs, in accordance with the policies of the school.
6.0 Threshold/Advanced skills Teacher Assessment
6.1 Contributing as required to the assessment of threshold and advanced skills teacher’s standards.
7.0 Management Information
7.1 Providing information about the work and performance of the staff employed at the school where this is relevant to their future employment.
8.0 Pupil Progress and Management
8.1 Ensure that all learners have been entered into the school Management system and appropriate alert is given to the SMS manager.
8.2 Liaise with the Cambridge Office to ensure that all learners are entered onto the Cambridge Website and that their records are being updated from time to time.
8.3 Ensure that the progress of pupils of the school is monitored and recorded. The head must orient himself/ herself with the goals of the Strategic Plan (Academic goals and objectives).
8.4 Ensure that Parents Teacher Interviews (PTI) and other relevant Parents teacher conferences are held as appropriate.
8.5 Engage learners in exciting Core curricular activities and arrange for competitions with other schools as appropriate.
9.0 Pastoral Care
9.1 Determining and ensuring the implementation of a policy for the pastoral care of the pupils.
10.0 Discipline
10.1 Ensuring the maintenance of good order and discipline at all times during the school day (including the midday break) when pupils are present on the school premises. This includes proper grooming, general etiquette such greeting and other general internationally accepted behavior and mannerism.
11.0 Relations with parents
11.1Making arrangements for parents to be given regular information about the school curriculum, the progress of their children and other matters affecting the school, to promote common understanding of its aims.
12.0 Resources Allocation and Financial Duties
12.1 Ensure that teachers have entered only learners who have met school fees policy into the registers. In carrying out this duty, the head will liaise with the Finance department to get an up-dated record of financial status of learners.
12.2 Allocating, controlling and accounting for all resources of the school. (Textbooks and other learning materials).
13.0 Teaching
13.1 Participating, to such an extent as may be appropriate having regard to his/her other duties, in the teaching of pupils at the school, including the provision of cover for absent teachers. (The head must teach a maximum of 6 Periods per week a subject of his/ her specialization)
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Qualifications
- An Education Degree, a Master’s in Education an added advantage.
- Experience in senior management must include strategic leadership.
- Proven classroom teaching experience.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of Cambridge Assessment International Education Curriculum.
- Sound understanding of delivering CAIE l Curriculum.
- Application of IT to teaching, learning and management
- Analysis and use of educational data for assessment and target setting.
- Safeguarding issues and regulations including Child Protection procedures and safety.
Leadership and Management Skills
- Motivate and inspire pupils, staff, parents, and other stakeholders.
- Provide professional direction to the work of others through mentoring and performance management reviews, and Set standards and act as a role model.
- Provide a clear vision of the school’s future progression.
Decision Making Skills
- Creative thinking.
- Working collaboratively, anticipating, solving problems, and identifying opportunities.
- Analyzing, interpreting and acting upon relevant information and data.
Communication Skills
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and deal sensitively with others.
- Chairing meetings, efficiently negotiate, consult and influence pupils, parents, school authorities and the wider community.
- Effective reporting to the Principal.
