Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) is an International Non-Governmental Organization working in over 30 countries around the world. It is a member of the worldwide ACT-Alliance, comprised of 140 churches and church-related organizations cooperating on humanitarian assistance, advocacy and development. Norwegian Church Aid has been working in Malawi since 2002 and in 2021, NCA joined forces with DCA and are operating as a joint country programme (JCP) in Malawi with Strategic Priorities for the period 2021-2024 being, Gender based violence (GBV), Climate Smart Economic empowerment (CSEE) and Fighting inequality (Fl).

In 2021 NCA merged with DanChurchAid to form Malawi Joint Country Program (JCP). The JCP was created to enhance synergy and positive sustainable development in the lives of the poor and marginalized people in the target communities of Malawi and to reduce costs and increase efficiency and effectiveness.

For NCA/DCA to continue developing its and partners’ programmes in Malawi, NCA/ DCA is seeking experienced persons with solid knowledge and skills to fill the following vacant position in the Country office based in Lilongwe:

PROGRAMME COORDINATOR – GENDER BASED VIOLENCE (RE-ADVERTISED)

The successful candidate will be a part of the NCA/DCA Extended Management Team at the NCA Malawi Representation and will be based in Lilongwe and will report to the Head of Programs.

Key Responsibilities

Project and program design and management

  • Overall thematic program development as according to the JCP Malawi Country Strategy
  • Management of projects within the thematic area
  • Developing project interventions including theory of change
  • Prepare project results framework and budget.
  • Coordinate programs in line with annual performance goals and objectives in line with NCA/DCA strategic plan.

Strategic oversight

  • Provide updated technical knowledge within the thematic area to inform strategies, reports, proposals, development, and funding.
  • Ensuring that all interventions are aligned to NCA/DCA Country Strategy and relevant national policies.
  • Ensuring alignment to global strategic goals and Country Office Strategic Priorities
  • Monitoring of program progress and working closely with program officers.
  • Provide ongoing direction and leadership for program and project operations.
  • Monitoring of projects for efficient and effective use of donor funds
  • Grants and compliance management

Staff management.

  • Line management of staff as according to NCA Global Leadership Platform and line management responsibilities and expectations.
  • Conduct Performance Development Review to set goal and establish capacity needs.
  • Ensure that staff’s capacity is built for maximum program delivery.
  • Mentoring teams and effectively management of resources
  • Solve any conflicts arising from the thematic program.

Multi Stakeholder Engagement.

  • Facilitating multi stakeholder meetings between academia, NGOs and the private sector.
  • Representing the organization in different donor forums
  • Liaising with government representatives on relevant policies

Resource Mobilization.

  • Identifying resource opportunities
  • Writing proposals in line with donor requirements

Report writing.

  • Submitting monthly, quarterly, annual reports to NCA global, donors, and senior management
  • Provide quality control on reports from technical staff.
  • Ensuring proper archiving of all program documentation as according to NCA and DCA routines in the PIMs

Education qualification and Skills

The Programme Coordinator should have master’s degree in gender or social science, or any related field obtained from a recognized academic institution.

  • He or She should have at least 8 years’ relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and work experience in Gender Based Violence as a thematic discipline, community development and mobilization, Gender and Human Rights.
  • Proven experience in understanding of project management.
  • Experience from NGO and/or development work.
  • Strong networking and representation skills and proven stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent drafting, communication, and proven experience in managing and working with a team.
