Overview

BACKGROUND
The National AIDS Commission (NAC) is a body corporate established in 2001 and reconstituted through the HIV and
AIDS (Prevention and Management) Act No. 9 of 2018 with new functional roles. The Acf mandates NAC to coordinate and provide leadership for the implementation of the National response to HIV and AIDS in Malawi.

An opportunity has arisen to engage qualified persons of Malawian origin to fill vacant positions tenable at NAC Office in Lilongwe.

NAC, therefore, invites applications from suitable candidates to fill the positions of:

PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER โ€“ Permanent
Grade : N4
Reporting to : Chief Executive Officer

Purpose of the job:
To provide technical, operational and Corporate public relations services to NAC and the Chief Executive Officerโ€™s (CEO) office in the planning execution and coordination of the day-to-day functions and serve as the Commissionโ€™s spokesperson/liaison officer

Duties and Key responsibilities

  1. Serving as a Public Relations/Liaison Officer for the Commission.
  2. Monitoring and analysing all groundbreaking news, media articles and any other issues on HIV and AIDS on the international and local scene and liaise with the CEO on providing necessary responses where required.
  3. Preparing speeches for the Chairperson of the Board of Commissioners, CEO, Government Officials and other relevant authorities in liaison with the relevant technical officers, heads of divisions, directors and the CEO.
  4. Facilitating the development, implementation and review of the Corporate Communication Strategy including its standardisation and quality assurance.
  5. Providing reports and updates on NAC and HIV related events and activities to the general public through the approved channels.
  6. Liaising with the Media on HIV reporting ensuring that they provide correct and accurate information on HIV and AIDS at all times.
  7. Providing administrative support relating to public relations and technical backstopping to the CEO`s office
  8. Regularly updating the Chief Executive Officerโ€™s information database.
  9. Assist in the organization of national calendar events including their message development
  10. Facilitating the generation of content for the website and all other social media platforms.
  11. Assist in the arrangement and coordination of meetings for the Board of Commissioners and its committees.
  12. Assist in providing secretarial services to the committees of board of commissioners
  13. Providing secretarial services to the commissionโ€™s management meetings.
  14. Assist in the behavoural change communication and interventions aspects of the national response.
  15. Coordinating the production of the quarterly / biannual newsletter.
  16. Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Academic, Professional Qualifications and Experience
The applicant should possess the following;

  1. Bachelors degree in Journalism, Marketing, Business Administration, Social Sciences or Mass Communication.
  2. At least five (5) yearsโ€™ experience in office management and public relations at a senior level in a busy corporate or public environment.
  3. A Valid membership to the professional body will be an added advantage.

  1. Open minded, diplomatic with excellent communication and writing as well as interpersonal skills.
  2. Ability to assimilate information quickly and accurately and make a positive story out of it
  3. Conscientious, thorough, systematic person with a high level of integrity
  4. An effective team player with a desire to understand NACโ€™s plans and operational areas.
  5. Must possess expertise in message development and material design, formatting and production.
  6. Must have experience in editing corporate documents, news items and have the ability to develop press releases.
  7. Must be proficient in standard computer applications.
