MAC-Communicable Diseases Action Centre (MAC-CDAC) is a university research center at Kamuzu University of Health sciences working on research to address priority global health problems such as malaria, HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, neglected tropical diseases and other communicable diseases. The Centre is looking for self-motivated and talented individuals to fill the positions of Research Nurses and Enumerators to work in the Malaria Prevention in Schools (SMAP) study, a clinical trial to compare drug regimens for chemoprevention in primary school students.

RESEARCH NURSE (3 POSITIONS) โ€“ BLANTYRE

Position summary: The Research Nurse will implement school and community-based activities including stakeholder engagement, obtain written consent, perform interviews, complete electronic data capture forms, administer study drugs, collect blood samples, and submit reports to the study coordinator.

Duration of Contract: The initial contract will be for 11 months with a possibility for further extension based on performance and availability of funding.

Reporting Line: He/ She will be reporting to the Project Coordinator

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The key responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing participant enrollment criteria and conducting informed consent
  • Working with enumerators to collect data using tablets
  • Collection of biological samples.
  • Ensuring accountability for site activities, drugs, specimen tracking, specimen transport, and inventory
  • Dispensing study drugs.
  • Documenting and maintaining accurate records of study participant visits, procedures.
  • Ensuring that study procedures and protocols are followed.
  • Participating in team work to conduct all aspects of the study.
  • Coordinating and working closely with local health center staff and community leaders on study project activities
  • Assisting with sample organization, storage, and tracking
  • Writing weekly and monthly reports
  • Participating in data quality checks and data cleaning
  • Facilitating strong collaboration and coordination with the school and health center staff/management as well as community, religious, and other organizations working in the area
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the study coordination and relevant

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in nursing from a recognized institution.
  • 5 yearsโ€™ experience in a busy health-related research setting, especially experience in school health research.
  • Registered with the Nurses Council of Malawi
  • Computer literate with experience in utilizing electronic data capture, Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet application systems.
  • Must have an up-to-date Human Subjectโ€™s Training Certificate from a recognized Institutions.

Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and qualifications as applicable to staff in the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences. KUHES is an equal opportunity employer.
