Resource Mobilization Intern

  1. Background

Lydia Action is a Malawian non-profit organization that sprouted from Lydia Foundation, which was founded in 1998 by Dr. Rachel Nyagondwe Fiedler in Zomba as a charitable initiative. Lydia Action was incorporated as a Trust in 2021. The organization is registered with the Malawi’s NGO Regulatory Authority (NGORA) and is a member of the Malawi Council of Non-Governmental Organizations (CONGOMA). Lydia Action has been working with disadvantaged communities for over two decades to empower the most vulnerable members of society, especially women and children, as well as the youth and the elderly. Lydia Action has also been instrumental in providing relief assistance and building resilience in communities affected by disasters, particularly in Zomba. Its headquarters are in Lilongwe, and the regional offices are in Zomba. The following are the objectives of Lydia Action:

  • Empowering Women are to exercise their rights freely and safely to be productive citizens of their communities.
  • Supporting children to withstand barriers deterring them from fulfilling their educational potentials.
  • Enabling older populations in communities to realize their rights to dignity, respect and to participate in socio-economic activities.
  • Preparing prospective youth to become young leaders and drivers of development work that benefit their communities.

The purpose of this post is to support the implementation of Lydia Action’s 2024 -2027 Resource Mobilization Strategy. Inline with the objectives of the strategy, the intern shall support in:

  • Increasing the annual organizational funding received by current contributors.
  • Diversifying funding sources for the organization by tapping into various sources of funds.
  • Securing reliable multi-year funding sources to enable long-term strategic programming.
  1. Scope of work

The Resource Mobilization Intern shall have the following general duties and responsibilities:

  • Mapping of potential organizations that Lydia Action could partner with for joint resource mobilization efforts; as well as potential donors that could fund Lydia Action programmes
  • Identify and engage potential individual donors and for-profit companies (CSR) for Lydia Action Funding
  • Drafting of concept notes and proposals for funding appeals and applications
  • Conducting situation analyses of developmental issues in communities as evidence for design of new innovative data-driven interventions.
  • Support in design and implementation of resource mobilization campaigns.
  1. Specific Tasks 
  • Update the donor and partner database.
  • Actively look for call for proposals that Lydia Action qualifies to apply.
  • Maintain a status record of concept notes/proposals (stages, timelines, people responsible, outcomes, etc.)
  • Engage potential partners and donors by organizing meetings.
  • Document potential best practices that could inform design of new innovative interventions.
  • Support community groups in applying for community-based grants.
  1. Qualifications 
  1. Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in development, social work, economics, and related fields.
  2. 2 – 3 years of experience in a similar role
  3. Understanding of development work in Malawi, and the national context.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint etc.
  5. Strong command of verbal and written English language
  6. Effective communication, and facilitation skills
  7. Hard working, meticulous, and able to efficiently multi-task
  8. Good administration and people skills
  9. Ability to work effectively under pressure.

 

  1. Location

The Resource Mobilization Intern can be based anywhere in Malawi but shall occasionally be required to travel to Lilongwe and Zomba.

  1. Reporting

The Intern shall directly report to the Deputy Executive Director with indirect reporting to the Executive Director. The intern shall work closely with the National Manger, Finance Manager as well as the M&E Officer.
