Norwegian Church Aid works with people and organisations around the world in their struggle to eradicate poverty and injustice. We provide emergency assistance in disasters and work for long-term development in local communities. In order to address the root causes of poverty, we advocate for just
decisions by public authorities, businesses and religious leaders.

In 2021 NCA merged with DanChurchAid to form Malawi Joint Country Program (JCP). The JCP was created to enhance synergy and positive sustainable development in the lives of the poor and marginalized people in the target communities of Malawi and to reduce costs and increase efficiency and effectiveness.

For NCA/DCA to continue developing its and partnersโ€™ programmes in Malawi, NCA/ DCA is seeking experienced persons with solid knowledge and skills to fill the following vacant positions in the Country office based in Lilongwe:

SENIOR FINANCE OFFICER

Reports to: Finance Coordinator

Main Responsibility

The Senior Finance officerโ€™s main responsibility is the financial management of various projects mainly funded by all institutional donors that are not of Norwegian and Denmark origin. These donors
include EU, USAID, UN Agencies, Govโ€™t of Flanders, ECHO, Irish Aid. The Senior Finance Officer is responsible for financial compliance inย  accordance with the contractual agreements of the projects. Provide support to projects on financial matters, including but not limited to budgeting, agreements, and reporting. Spearhead the processes of project audits ensuring standard and timeline are kept. Senior Finance Officer is also responsible to contribute for betterment of the Finance Unit.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review of financial reports submitted by implementing partners.
  • Monitoring and capacity building for implementing partners.
  • Evaluating capacity needs within own section and providing on the job training as is necessary.
  • Focal person in all relevant project audits, from engagement to final report production.
  • Focal person in financial management issues with ยฌdonors, implementing partners and other stakeholders for various projects.
  • Quality assurance of budgets, budget revisions and donor financial reports including consolidation from multiple implementing partners for submission to donors.
  • Review of all requests financial and operation related to relevant projects (payments, payment requests, purchase requests, travel requests, etc.)
  • Coordinate monthly grant review meetings with project team members and follow up on action points.
  • Design, revise, and implement templates for daily use in the country office and implementing partners as required.
  • Review monthly fuel usage report and reconciliation for the country office.
  • Review and posting of transactions in NCAโ€™s Accounting system.
  • Responsible for management of monthly shared office costs allocation to all projects in NCA.
  • Setup of projects in NCAโ€™s accounting system.
  • Quality assurance of project agreements between NCA and implementing partners.
  • Serve as active participant of internal procurement committee during assigned period.

Education, Qualification, and Skills

  • The Senior Finance Officer should have a minimum of university bachelorโ€™s degree in accounting/finance and not less than 10 years of relevant experience. A masterโ€™s degree in finance or business /ACCA, CPA with 8 years of experience will be an added advantage.
  • He or She should have at least 5 yearsโ€™ experience in the humanitarian and developmental non-profit organizations.
  • Excellent understanding of the various donorsโ€™ regulations and compliance requirements. (EU, USAID, IA, UN, etc)
  • Ability to facilitate different capacity building activities in house and for partners.
  • Excellent computer proficiency in Microsoft Office packages especially advanced user in MS Excel. Knowledge and experience in using MS Teams, and accounting software.
  • Able to travel to various locations in the country for partners visit and project site visits.
  • Willingness and ability to work with all faiths.
