Overview

The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA), an organization entrusted with the assessment, collection and accounting for tax revenues for the Malawi Government, is inviting applications from suitably qualified and interested candidates to fill the vacant position of Senior Legal Counsel tenable at its Head Office in Blantyre.

Job Title: Senior Legal Counsel – Criminal Prosecutions
Reporting To: Director of Legal Services
Location: Head Office – Blantyre
Grade: С3
Organizational Unit: Legal Services Division

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducting criminal prosecution of tax and customs offences.
  • Managing teams in the criminal prosecutions section.
  • Reviewing cases referred by in-house clients and providing appropriate solutions
  • and recommendations.
  • Preparing detailed briefs for cases referred to the Courts of law.
  • Representing the Authority in all Courts of Law and Tribunals.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from a recognized University.
  • Admitted to practice Law in the Supreme Court of Malawi, High Court and Courts subordinate thereto.
  • Must possess a valid Legal Practitioner’s Licence.
  • At least six (6) years post admission experience.
  • Demonstrable experience of providing effective legal counsel.
  • Extensive knowledge of the criminal procedure in Malawi and proven experience in handling criminal prosecutions.
