Overview
The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) is a statutory organization established in 1972 by an Act of Parliament (Cap 51:02) with a mandate to promote standardization of commodities and their manufacture, production, processing or treatment and to provide for the verification and calibration of weighing and measuring instruments: and further to provide for matter incidental to or connected with standardization.
The MBS is inviting applications from suitably qualified and interested persons to fill the following vacancies:

Job Title : Software Developer

Duration: Two (2) Years
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Researching, designing, implementing and managing software programs;
- Testing and evaluating new programs;
- Identifying areas for modification in existing programs and subsequently developing these modifications;
- Writing and implementing efficient code;
- Determining operational practicality;
- Developing quality assurance procedures;
- Deploying software tools, processes and metrics;
- Maintaining and upgrading existing systems;
- Training users;
- Working closely with other developers, UX designers, business and systems analysts;
Academic and Professional Qualifications
- Bachelorโs Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a relevant discipline with a minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in software development for the delivery of information systems with sound knowledge of software development and internet technologies using current tools and methodologies;
- Proven experience and knowledge in web-based ย programming languages, web-services, relation database management products, e.g. Java, XML, MySQL etc. Open-Source products and open standards knowledge is essential;
- At least 2 yearsโ experience in analysis/design and programming on development of systems using relevant W3C standards, JAVA SCRIPT, VB SCRIPT, PHP, SSL, ASP.NET technologies;
- Sound knowledge and experience with PHP, MySQL, Apache, and ASP.NET, XML, HTML, XHTML, DHTML, SQL Server, and website maintenance, and team foundation services;
- Thorough understanding of web browser compatibility issues;
- Experience in Relational Database Data Modelling, construction of Entity-Relationship Models and mapping these to a physical database schema;
- Hands-on experience of delivering similar assignments that includes undertaking software development for automation of government and trade agencies would be an advantage;
- Experience with National Single Window developments and implementation, and ASYCUDA World is preferred;
- Knowledge and experience of introducing electronic payment interfaces is essential;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
