Overview
LOCAL GOVERNMENT SERVICE COMMISSION
Local Government Service Commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified Malawians to fill the following vacant positions tenable at Chikwawa District Council. The applicants must be willing to work in rural areas and subjected to Malawi Public Service Regulations (MPSR) from time to time.
1. POST TITLE: AGRICULTURE EXTENSION DEVELOPMENT OFFICER (AEDO)
Grade : K/M8
Salary : Within the range of Government (Grade K/M8) Salary Scale Segment
Location : Chikwawa District Council
Responsible to:
The successful candidate shall be responsible to the Agricultural Extension Development Coordinator (AEDC) of an EPA for planning, implementation, coordination and monitoring of Agricultural Extension Programmes, projects and activities in a section.
DUTIES:
- Interpret agricultural development and extension policies to farmers in a section.
- Formulate strategies for implementing Agricultural development programmes, projects and activities in liaison with local leaders and other stakeholders in a section.
- Facilitate formation of farmer clubs, associations, trusts and cooperatives in a section.
- Provide technical support to Farmer-based organisations in management of farmer organisations through organised training and coaching.
- Conduct farmer training needs assessment in a section.
- Facilitate recruitment of farmers for specific training organised outside the section.
- Conduct agricultural production estimates in a section.
- In liaison with stakeholders, formulate strategies for achieving food security in a section.
- Organise, plan and implement farm demonstrations on various subjects in a section.
- Manage research trials in a section.
- Facilitate implementation of mobile van campaigns in a section.
- Review farming familiesโ statistics in a section on a yearly basis.
- Prepare and submit reports to Agricultural Extension Development (AEDO) regularly.
- Attend fortnightly training sessions organised by the EPA.
- Maintain relevant data bank for all agricultural enterprises in a section.
- Provide training services to farmers and stakeholders as per demand and requirement in a section.
- Organise and implement field days, tours to successful demonstration in a section.
Qualification and Experience
Applicants must be in possession of a Diploma in General Agriculture obtained from a registered and an accredited institution.Those with experience in Agriculture Extension have an added advantage.
2. POST TITLE: ASSISTANT ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICER
Grade : K/M8
Salary : Within the range of Government (K/M8) salary scale segment
Location : Chikwawa District Council
Duties
- Planning Environmental health activities in the area.
- Inspecting business and food premises to assess health risks.
- Inspecting institutions such as hospitals, Schools Prisons, Orphanages, Nurseries
- Collecting water and food samples for bacteriological examination and chemical analysis.
- Assisting protection of wells and maintenance of water points.
Education Qualification
Applicants must be in possession of a Diploma in Environmental Health obtained from a registered and accredited institutions.
3. POST TITLE: ASSISTANT VETERINARY OFFICER
Grade : K/M8
Salary : Within the range of Government (Grade K/M8) Salary scale segment
Location : Chikwawa District Council (Dip-tanks/Vet station/EPA)
Duties
(a) Reporting and be responsible to the Area Veterinary Supervisor/AEDC.
(b) Carrying out general livestock extension services
(c) Conducting farmer trainings on animal health and production
(d) Conduct farmer group organisation
(e) Visit livestock farmers regularly and hold meetings.
(f) Treating sick animals
(g) Supervising AHSAs and Vet Scouts under his control
(h) Collecting samples from sick animals and send them to the Laboratory for confirmation.
(i) Conducting postmortem on dead animals in order to find the cause at the death.
(j) Conducting Meat Inspection in rural slaughter slabs
(k) Carrying out vaccinations of various animal diseases.
(l) Carrying out an annual livestock census.
(m) Compiling and submit monthly, quarterly, annual and any other report timely.
(n) Sensitising farmers on revival of strategic dipping
(o) Supervising strategic dipping of animals in the revived dip tanks and provide proper guidance.
(p) Issuing livestock movement permits to livestock owners.
(q) Attending fortnightly training workshops at EPA.
(r) Mounting on-farm demonstrations
(s) Recording and reporting of disease outbreaks to higher authorities
(t) Conveying and interpreting to farmers new livestock messages, technologies and interventions for early adoption
(u) Ensuring safety of all government items under his/her custody.
(v) And any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Education qualification
Applicants must be in possession of a Diploma in Veterinary Science or Animal health and Production obtained from a registered and accredited institutions.
4. POST TITLE: ASSISTANT CATERING SUPERVISOR
Grade : M/M10
Salary : Within the range of Government (Grade M/M10) Salary scale segment
Location : Chikwawa District Council
Duties
(a) Recording and maintaining kitchen inventory
(b) Ensuring cleanliness in the kitchen and makes sure that foods are hygienically prepared.
(c) Supervising kitchen staff including cooks
(d) Preparing duty roster for kitchen staff
(e) Purchasing of foodstuffs
(f) Updating ledgers
(g) Any other duties assigned to him/her by the Supervisor.
Education Qualification
Applicants must be in possession of a Diploma in Catering Hospitality Management or Hotel Management obtained from accredited institutions.
EMPLOYMENT TERMS
Successful candidates must be willing to be deployed in rural areas.
