Focus on Ability Society (FOAS) is a youth led non-governmental organisation in Malawi that popularly known for leading the Focus on Ability Short Film Festival in Malawi and the pioneers of such festival’s strategic approach in Africa. The organisation which its main focus is on promoting abilities of people with disabilities, youth, women, and other marginalised groups through film festival, trainings, research and partnerships was founded in September, 2016 and got registered with the Government of Malawi under the office of Registrar General on 23 December, 2019. The organisation was established with the following core objectives:

  1. To develop, produce and distribute films and documentaries showcasing abilities of people with disabilities, youth, women and other marginalised people in Malawi with the purpose to breaking down the barriers for inclusive participation in societal developments, mainly through encouraging viewers to shift their perspective on abilities of vulnerable people and inspire others.
  2. To produce and promote films and documentaries featuring role models those encourage girls and rural school going children to further their education.
  3. To developing and implementing youth focused community projects that contribute to preventing violent extremism in Malawi.
  4. To conduct research projects in Malawi to support its objectives and other national development projects.


FOAS is looking to engage services of interns for the following positions tenable at its offices in Zingwangwa Township, Blantyre.

Interested applicants should be Blantyre based and around Zingwangwa Township for affordable transport expenses.


Position:  Videographer Intern (Male only)

Nature and Scope of Work

The duties and responsibilities of the Intern shall be, but not limited to, the following:

  • Film videos on set or on location.
  • Ensure that equipment for a shoot is present and working.
  • Plan the shoot with the creative team and the client.
  • Edit footage in post-production.
  • Direct video productions ranging from single-camera productions to multi-camera field and studio productions. This includes interacting with and guiding clients, subjects/talent and others through the production process.
  • Operate and/or directs the operation of professional cameras, audio equipment, lighting equipment and related equipment to effectively record a variety of programme materials.
  • Recommends minor and/or major production changes to obtain the most appropriate and effective materials.
  • Help in developing marketing strategy to achieve diverse video content sales.


Knowledge and Skills Requirements

The desired intern must have the following education qualification and skill-set:

  • Minimum Diploma in Film/Video Production, ICT, Communications, Journalism, Television Production, Media Arts or related area.
  • Excellent computer literacy.
  • Proficiency with editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro CC, PhotoShop, etc.
  • Independent problem solving and project management.
  • Those with skills in Sound Engineering and Drone Operation will have an added advantage.


Duration and timing of the assignment

This is a six-month assignment and is scheduled to take place from the date of engagement that is expected to be in March, 2024.
