Job Purpose

The WASH Field Facilitators will be responsible for ensuring that maintenance project activities are properly planned and facilitated at community and institutional level in line with the project approach and objectives. The role reports to the Maintenance Project Coordinator and supports WASH MEAL Officer to develop and implement an effective M and E system as well as working closely with DIWASH and Carbon Project WASH Facilitators in the 3 TAs of Dzoole, Mkukula and Chiwere.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Mobilise and sensitize of rural water supply community-and institutional based structures, Traditional Authorities, and local leaders to effectively participate in the project.
  • Identify and verify project participants in conjunction with relevant government structures, other SHA projects and WASH partner.
  • Conduct training needs assessment for community-based structures (e.g. Water Point Committees and Area Mechanics) and facilitating the required trainings for WPCs and Area Mechanics.
  • Facilitate formation/reactivation of community and institutional-based Water Point Committees and trainings.
  • Facilitate awareness raising campaigns at community level to build demand for adoption of service contracts or Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and ability to pay for services.
  • Facilitating coordination with government extension staff, decentralized structures, and other local leadership in targeted TAs
  • Conduct performance review meetings involving different stakeholders such as Area Mechanics and spare parts retailers to track progress and identify support needed.
  • Conduct regular follow ups and strengthen the capacity Area Mechanics and spare parts retailers to manage maintenance of hand pumps in order to maintain functionality rates of hand pumps.
  • Supporting establishment and implementation of WASH monitoring and evaluation methodologies and carry out assessments and monitoring activities, as well as data collection using digital platforms.
  • Strengthen Water Monitoring Assistants capacities to collect, process and analyse data on the field situation for decision making and reporting.
  • Facilitate effective collaboration with other key development partners at TA level to promote synergy and ensure best use of available resources for development activities within the district.
  • Prepare timely weekly, monthly and quarterly reports and submission to Line Manager
  • Support documentation of lessons and experiences through project period.
  • Ensure safeguarding issues are implemented and reported during project delivery.

ย Minimum Requirements

  • At least bachelorโ€™s degree preferred in Public Health or Environmental Health, Community Development or other relevant subjects.
  • At least 3 years of practical experience in facilitating rural WASH activities or other development activities facilitation.
  • Computer skills especially word processing, spreadsheets, and internet.
  • Proactive and highly motivated individual who requires the minimum of supervision.
  • Should be able to ride a motorcycle and have a valid motorcycle riding license

  • Demonstrable understanding of safeguarding risks and mitigating actions.
